Title: First Draft
Post by: Estel2931 on February 03, 2015, 08:38:08 AM
Did my first draft last night at my house with some friends. We drafted Conspiracy (which I'm not a huge fan of) and it went well for me :D

I drafted Jund and went 3-0...first game ended in 5 turns.

I was told to try and avoid 3 color decks in draft because of mana fixing. Is there any validity to that?

And yes I know 3 color fixing is a little more "tricky", but is it advised or not in draft?

Makes sense. Like I said, we drafted Conspiracy...probably won't do that set again.

Most of my deck was green (creatures, removal and buffs)...red was creatures and removal and black was removal and card draw. Most of my creatures were 1 drops with haste or other kinds of abilities. I told my friends that I was running 3 colors right before the match started...that's when they have me a hard time

I just wasn't a fan of the "Conspiracy" cards themselves. And I already know I'm a little crazy lol

Generally speaking, if you go 3 color, you don't want your deck to need those colors evenly. You want to be strong in two colors, and very lightly splashing the third. Otherwise, you wind up with what's commonly referred to as "The Devil's Manabase" - 6 of each  color land.

My deck was mostly green...black had typhoid rats, tragic slip and 2 other different removal and draw spells. Red had a few more 1 drop creatures but also burn.
