Title: Blood or Blaze?
Post by: NovusOrbis on February 02, 2015, 08:39:36 PM
I just need some opinions. I like {Searing Blood} because it always hits for two, but it's poop against */3 creatures. {Searing Blaze} is that last one point of toughness, but that trigger tho.
What are the thoughts of the community on this one?

Depends. IMO {Searing Blaze}, especially if you run fetches. I mean it's {Spark Jolt} on {Pyromancer's Gauntlets} for a land drop and an extra mana. Not bad.

I think Blaze is better. I assume this is a modern environment, so fetches are completely plausible to make it at instant speed. In both options, Blaze damages an opponent and a creature. Blood may only do one. As always: why not both?

It is important to not that {searing blood} gets around {leyline if sanctity} and blaze does not.

It's also important to note that if blood doesn't have a valid creature target (like the creature gets sacced in response) it fizzles out.

No kidding? Why does it do that?

Edit: ehh I think I see it...

When the blood resolves, it relies on there still being a target. If the target is no longer valid, it fizzles. Blaze is superior in the sense that it doesn't need there to be a creature, it doesn't need to kill the creature to deal damage to the player, and it has the potential to deal more damage.

Verdict: searing blaze is a better card. You put searing blood in your sideboard if you need more cards like that vse, and landfall is easy to trigger with fetchlands.
