Title: Color preferences and why
Post by: Infect usage on January 27, 2015, 02:08:03 PM
My color preferences are green black red, cause that's what I started with so I can use that combination the best, what about you guys?

I started with green black white and have stuck with them the whole brief time I have played....with games like MTG I have lots more fun if I feel attached to my clan/deck (I know, I'm weird xD), and I went with Abzan because green is nature and ferocity, white is love and protection, and then the black is pain and corruption, so it pretty much summed up my life ;)

Black white! Played it ever since Eventide!  Though I'm trying to branch out, so I can understand better all the colours and win more magic!

{B}.
It kills things.

{U}

It counters things.

I started out with black with Duels of the Planeswalkers around Innistrad Block. It had removal and awesome other stuff, duh. I branched out and joined the secretive Dimir Houses because, y'know, blue is good.

Started Orzhov because I liked the extort mechanic. Then Boros because I like the theme. Overall Red, then white, then black.
Green is next and blue is last.
Freakin blue...

Wow... Color preference. I would guess Id have to say green, but yet I hate elves. Stems from DotPW. That elven deck, man it's evil. Then there is red, cause I like the tempo. And Goblins, goblins too. Not as overpowered as them scheming elves, just overwhelming numbers. I always liked mono black too. Demons and vampires leaching on life. Nice. White as fortress, just fun to control the entire game. Only realized that recently since I always hated the stalemate boards of white. Then there is blue. Counterspell and draw. All it could do. Not anymore with freaking mill. Omg that mill. Gotta say it's my least favorite color. Then again maybe because it's the enemy if red and green.
If I go over my decks, favs are {G}{R} and {B}{G}, followed by {G}{U} funnily enough.

Green and black

Because screw mana screw, and removal is amazing.

Not to be that guy .... But {U} is my fav colour it's funny I started as a Gruul guy and hated {U} BUT now being a better player I can no longer deny my true feelings for the best colour of magic!!

No clue really because I haven't made a deck in a while( too many cards that are not sorted). But when I draft I seem to go towards red, white, black, or some sort of combo of the three. Unless I'm forced something else. Sometimes sprinkle in some blue but usually that color is too picked over.

Started on {B} back in revised but was at an age where "I'll just put all my favs and big creatures in!" Wasn't long before I began to realise synergy wins.

I then jumped to {B}{R} around Tempest because I noticed burn and kill was smashing face easily back then. There weren't as many answers for things.

But Esper. When I started to understand strategy, it's been Esper and iterations of it since.

I use all the colors, I really haven't only played a certain color I like playing all of them

Let me put it like this. I dont care if you are playing every colour but blue or just one colour thats not blue. Splash blue. Splash it or you will lose. Splash it or you will lose to me.

Started mono red
Went Mono green
Brewed my first standard deck which was abzan
Built naya edh deck
Bought the oloro edh deck (the introduction of how good blue is)
Got rid of standard, built blue white gifts tron.
Built red green belcher
Built mono green aggro
Currently building red blue storm for tiny leaders
My next projects are finishing the expensive pieces of oloro and then do a foil challenge of Jhoira.

I play everything, but a lot less black. My girlfriend plays only black (I convinced her to play a little blue), so it's balanced.

I play a lot of red. But I can't play red alone it has to be in conjunction with another colour

My first tournament deck was Blue/Red, back when Standard was called Type II and consisted of 4th, Ice AGe, Chronicles and Fallen Empires. It was the beginnings of counter burn. I'd counter it. If I couldn't, I'd burn it. 10 creatures total. 4 {Uthden Troll},  4{Ghost Ship}, 2 {Mahamoti Djinn}. Board wipe with the disk, regenerate the ship or troll. It was pretty nasty for the time. I can still remember the list

I started out as a red black Mage, but now it's all about temur color mix now. Pumping into crazy monsters and countering their counter is so fun. Oh but if it's format specific, bug cause infect rules and I love playing it in legacy.

Yeah man! I read an article about this guy who beat him with some 2/2 beAr. he was like "yeah, I just never casted more than one creature, that way he'd never pop the disk." And he somehow won. Was what the win con of Buehler Blue?
Don't know the exact deck, but had a friend who played like that when he had abandoned his pillow fort. Wincon was: I have more cards in my deck, so you draw out before I do. Same wincon as his pillow deck btw.
For a proper wincon in mono blue control I'd say {jace's phantasm}

Two players exist, as seen in the above two posts.

The players who like all colors

And the $up@R h@x0R 1337 blue players.

all colors exist for a reason bro, there's a reason mtg Doesn't just come in blue
Let them play blue and feel smug, we shall destroy them with hand disruption soon enough.

BUT WHAT IF THEY R BUG???

I prefer BW. I'm working on assembling modern soul sisters and BW tokens, if someone knows another BW modern deck that's any good let me know and I'll work on that too :)

Nah it's fine I play this BW control version of the deck that basically uses B for orzhov charm (abuses martyr of sands) and blood baron of viskopa (fantastic control win con btw). I am assembling the mono w version though which is more of an aggro deck.

That seems meh in a control shell. It'll often be a murder + gain 2 life, but as a sorcery.

Controlly. If they had no blockers or immediat threats he was swinging. Or getting {Sunbond}ed.

Why run sunbond in a control deck? Just play a cheap finisher like bloodbaron or serra ascendant, they don't open you up for 2 for 1s.

{Serra Ascendant} did nothing for me. I was fetching {Sunbond} or {Angelic Destiny} with a {Heliod's Pilgrim} that was usually thrown under whatever was trying to kill me. I'm not saying it was a grade A deck that couldn't be improved. It was what it was.

Personally green is my favorite mono color because I like the sheer power in creatures it gives. My least favorite color in general is white, I'm not exactly sure why but playing white to me is alway boring. My favorite color combo is blue green. I have a bunch of blue green decks all focused on big creatures, drawing, and control over your opponent

I am of the opposite mind, iI always struggle when playing u/g.  I get conflicted on using my mana to cast huge monsters and holding back to counter/control.  It just never felt like a natural combination to me.  Now r/g or g/b have always been fun for me.

I just got a new preference....green/white for the world!!! I'm still using my Abzan outlast deck lots, but I'm experimenting with some green/white token stuff and its REALLY fun. Not exactly OP or anything, but fun. I'm building a deck right now that centers around {Elspeth, Sun's Champion} and {Emmara Tandris}.
