Title: Monastery mentor vs brimaz
Post by: DirtyMustachio on January 27, 2015, 11:58:58 AM
{brimaz, king of oreskos}
{monastery mentor}

They're both good and it's hard which to put in a 3 cmc spot for my deck, so maybe if I hear some other opinions I'll have a better idea

It's kinda a midrangy/control wb that I'm playing so I could really use either but it's a hard call

Mentor is better the more noncreature spells you're using IMO.

If your meta has a significant amount of {Bile Blight}, Brimaz should get the nod.

Why not  {Soulfire Grand Master}

Because it's white black?

Good reason

Depends on whether you need a really "self contained" win con. If so, brimaz, if not, maybe mentor.

Lol ha, but yeah I think because it's a lot of non creature spells he would work well, problem is
Lots of mass destruction and I set brimaz down in the mirror and I think he could reset easier

Not really sure how potent other controls are but the new sultai one is scary

What deck are you running? If you're mostly running creatures than Brimmy is better. If your running rings like raise the alarm and hordling outburst than that bald guy is better

I'm pretty sure Brimaz is better here

I had a feeling but a lot of points supporting mentor were recently raised recently so I wanted to see what everyone else thought

I agree with brimaz in this build. He is a threat himself and can cause some massive damage. Another note. Have you thought about playing elspeth at all? Just as a 2 of. She can also win games herself and do some great work

Pain seer seems risky with so many cards 4cmc or greater

why not singleton theory here?  game 1 they see mentor and SB in their {bile blight} then game 2 brimaz kicks their ass

I think of this debate as {Delver of Secrets} v. {Tarmogoyf} (not on power level, but by role). Both are great cards, but one is an efficient beast, while the other is extremely good in a spell dense deck. {Brimaz, King of Oreskos} is pretty much unconditionally good although not as explosive, while {Monastery Mentor} can do serious damage and explode, but won't always be good. In your list, I like Brimaz.
