Can you run a Mardu commander deck with a mono red commander? Or does the coloured activated ability change things up?
Also you should consider {Cathars' Crusade}, because at the rate you can get small creatures and tokens it's just stupid not to have it

is that right? I always though the commander had to be the colors itself, and then the cards in the deck could only include those colors and mana symbols. in my understanding Alesha would fit in a Zurgo deck but a Zurgo wouldnt fit in an Alesha deck.

Your confusing color identity and color. Color is the actual color the card is given by its cmc, or in some cases gained from effects like {painter's servant}. So {graverobber spider} for example, is green and just green, so protection from black would not be relevant. His color identity, however, which is the important one for commander, is black green. He cannot be in a mono green deck.
Edit: so just to be clear, {alesha, who smiles at deafh} is a mardu commander and can legally have {zurgo, helmsmasher} in the deck.

it says "
To build a deck, you first choose a legendary creature, called a "commander" or "general," then construct a Singleton deck around it containing exactly 99 other cards. Only cards of the commander's color(s) and colorless cards may be included in the deck." but then somewhere else on the website ot says Color identity.
