Title: EDH Godsend
Post by: Nymuera on December 21, 2014, 09:04:16 PM
In an EDH game if a commander blocks my creature equipped with {Godsend}, can they no longer cast their commander?

Well, when the card is exiled, the owner of the card has a choice. Either they can let it go to the exile zone under {godsend} or they can replace that event by sending it to the command zone. Note that the command zone is a specific place in exile. If they send their commander to exile under {godsend} they won't be able to cast it, but if they send it to the command zone they are good.

Technically the command zone isn't exile, it's the command zone, but that's correct. Yay technicalities 😜

However, note this,

"Your opponents can't cast spells with the same name as cards exiled with Godsend."

That means if somebody else is running the same creature and it's not their commander, and you hit it, whoever is running that creature as their commander is screwed.

Most groups make the players remove copies of other players commanders from their decks for that game, or at least any group I've ever played with.

My playgroup has a Commander redirect rule:

Whenever your Commander would leave the battlefield or the stack, you may instead return it to the Command Zone.

Stops tucking and other stupid stuff. Nobody plays {Godsend} so I've never had to deal with that. I'd expect you to just modify {Godsend} instead of nerfing decks. But that's just me.

That makes {hinder} and {spell crumple} so much worse. :(

We're a very casual playgroup where {Hinder} and {Spell Crumple} aren't even remotely necessary let alone fair. I'm actually the only one running a tuck card and it's {Condemn} and it's for {Darksteel Colossus} and crew.
