Title: Creature to enchantment
Post by: Destore117 on December 18, 2014, 03:49:58 PM
So if I enchant A god {Athreos God of Passage} for example
Do attached things stay on it when it switches to enchantment and creature?
Like if I enchant it or equip it do those remain attached when it swaps between enchantment to creature

704.5p (http://imtgapp.com/forum/index.php?action=imtg;area=rule;number=704.5p): If an Equipment or Fortification is attached to an illegal permanent, it becomes unattached from that permanent. It remains on the battlefield.

Here ya go, relevant ruling.

The aura (also known as enchant creature) lands on the battlefield and then goes to the grave since it has no valid target.
I think he means what happens when you enchant atheros while you have 7 devotion but then lose that devotion.

Note that the Cipher ability does not work this way. The exiled spell would stay with the source, you just can't cast copies of them unless that source deals combat damage.

Once the creature leaves the battlefield and comes back it becomes a "new" creature, it will not have the spell ciphered to it any longer...
Not true.
702.98c (http://imtgapp.com/forum/index.php?action=imtg;area=rule;number=702.98c): The card with cipher remains encoded on the chosen creature as long as the card with cipher remains exiled and the creature remains on the battlefield. The card remains encoded on that object even if it changes controller or stops being a creature, as long as it remains on the battlefield.

Cipher is gone if the creature gets exiled or somehow the card that is in exile gets removed from exile.

the creature remains on the battlefield
Once the creature flickers it has left the battlefield and the cipher pops off.
Athreos can devote and undevote all he wants and keep the cipher but if he flickers then poof! No cipher.
This makes sense because of the existence of Dimir Keyrune, that thing would have been really awkward if cipher disappeared when it stopped being a creature.

Thanks for clarifying - I was meaning specifically in the instance of creatures remaining on the battlefield in the case of gods and manlands and the like.

Note that permanents won't lose 1/1 counters if they stop being a creature: {raging ravine}.
