Title: Would FoW break modern?
Post by: Kaalia with haste on December 14, 2014, 07:56:02 PM
Just wondering what you guys think, also to a lesser extent, {counterspell} it'd be good, but would it be busted?

Absolutely yes. The best Counterspell in modern right now is mana leak or remand. Compare the power levels and then re think itz

We can't say definitely yes. In legacy it trades card advantage for not being blown out turn one. In modern there aren't that many t1 win decks that are actually good. In total it wouldn't break the format but it would definitely make an impact

FoW would not break modern, it is quite bad against non-T1 or T2 combo, it might be played in some MB or SB, but modern is more of an attrition based format.

Counterspell would not be broken in the current meta, but if TC is banned and the meta shifts back to normal, it might be too powerful.

No. The cost for force is too steep, and there aren't any scary Belcher/SI/Oops All Spells decks running around...

Now it would make delver more busted than it is currently in Modern, but that will not be an issue after Cruise is banned.

I suppose it depends on your definition of "break."

If you mean "strongly influence the format," absolutely. Any deck with blue becomes 4 powerful cards stronger, combo decks especially become more vulnerable by a half-step.

If you mean it more literal, as in ruin, or make the game unplayable, we'll no. Life would go on, though it would take a period of transition while it adjusts, I imagine.

Think about it ... Delver already became the "new" deck with Cruise imagine it with Cruise AND FoW!!!!

It would make Modern even more {U}!!

Cruise of Will. {7}{U}{U}

Delve.

Choose one,

-Counter target spell

-Draw three cards.

Instead of paying Cruise of Will's casting cost you may exile a blue card from your hand and pay two life.

Okay yeah I'm procrastinating something important.

I don't think Force would break Modern per se, but it is pretty much unnecessary, so its introduction would do nothing at best. Force is needed in Legacy to stop turn 1 and 2 combos. Modern doesn't have anything like that because its ban list is designed to make it a turn 4 format.

Force in Modern would only make control decks better and Delver decks more so. Since the meta seems pretty Delver-heavy already, I think Force just doesn't help matters.

FoW would make Delver decks even better also Twin .... And Scapeshift a FoW modern would be {U} deck vs. {U} deck
