Although not confirmed - MM2 has been described to go up to the Scars Block.
Most likely a lack of Innistrad indicates we will see a Lily, snapcaster and crater hoof reprint eventually. Which means: Modern Masters 3 will happen.

Why is {Snapcaster Mage} so expensive? What decks even play him right now?

As for MM3, I think it is way too early, and I also think that it will come out in 2016, not 2017. Why do Conspiracy 2 which sells mediocre at $4 when they can do MM3 which would sell out at $12 MSRP? You could be right though.
