A very rough first draft of my mono black Blight deck.  It's already 10 cards over as you can see, and I'm sure there's a lot more to add once suggestions come in. Cuts are gonna be tough on this one, so any comments are appreciated!

What's so bad about him? A 5/5 flying Demon for 5 mana and 2 life is a fine deal, then he stays as a life tap to keep me alive and a meatshield to absorb a swing after that. I doubt he'll ever survive to drop an emblem, but if he does it's card city!

I'm torn between sides here but I think I fall into the group of people that doesn't like ob that much. In commander, when I'm thinking if a new card for my deck, I ask my self "Does this do one or more if the following":
Help me make a threat (whether it ramps, is part of a combo, draws cards, tutor, whatever)

Answer a threat

Be a threat.

Sure a 5/5 Demon for 5 and 2 life is fine, but it's relatively low impact and isn't gonna do too much in this game. The you have some life gain, which is nice, but you could just play things that give lifelink to your creatures. Then, he dies. If he gets anywhere NEAR that emblem, he's gonna be the table's target.

^This.

I have to agree that I've been un-impressed with him. Whenever anyone would play him, it never impacted the game. I'd rather be running Liliana of the Veil over ob.

{Zun Yu, Wei Advisor} seems decent for your general. {Liliana of the Dark Realms} is also pretty sick, especially if you can get a {Lake of the Dead} out of her.

EDIT: Nvm, Lilly is in there haha

Fair enough, some solid points. I'll cut him. I need at least 10 cuts anyway :P

- {Ob Nixilis of the Black Oath}

Lili of the Veil is a bit out of my budget, as much as I'd love to add her. The only reason I can even afford to have {Damnation} in there is because I traded for a real beat up copy of it for cheap

Anything else jump out as cut material to anyone, or a "must add?"

That is something I want to ask about. The only reason Necropotence is not in there is because the deck lacks life gain (it's pretty much just one card, {Whip of Erebos}). With Infect on the board, I'm likely to be a high priority target as well. As amazing as Necropotence is, do you think this deck can support paying that much life for the cards?

I run suicide {B}, I think this deck can do it. You would probably want to add {Basilisk Collar} though. Also I just noticed he was absent, you need {Gray Merchant of Asphodel}! He's a beast dude.

Assistance! Things I think you can drop:

•{Liliana's Reaver} (Just seems like a bad {Grave Titan})

•{Xathrid Gorgon} (I had her in my mono-{B} forever because she's Visara's homegirl, but I realized Visara can ride solo)

•{Nightmare Incursion} (Targets only a single player, and isn't really re-useable)

•{Ring of Xathrid} (Just a little too slow when compared to the {Nightmare}ifacts)

•{Trigon of Corruption} (Too expensive for too minimal of an effect. I see the -1/-1 subtheme and the wipe, but still doesn't seem good enough)

Hope that helps!

Helps quite a bit! I agree with you all of those point,  with the sole exception of the ring. Giving regeneration to and growing my Infect threats is a perfect fit for the deck, I feel.  Can you imagine that ring on {Reaper of Sheoldred} or Skittles? That's some scary stuff.

-{Liliana's Reaver}
+{Grave Titan}

-{Xathrid Gorgon}
-{Nightmare Incursion}
-{Trigon of Corruption}

+{Necropotence}

Edit: another thought - I have 10 board wipes in here. Too many? If I cut a couple, which ones should I cut?

-{Nevinyrrl's Disk}. Too slow, as much I like the anti-artifact and anti-enchant part

How good is abhorrent overlord in this deck? He seems.. Meh. The harpies are nice to sorta chill and block if you're playing in a voltron heavy meta but otherwise.. Meh.

Also, have you thought about {expedition map}? It grabs coffers nicely in the early game or the late.

I have, it's just so hard to fit in.

You're right about Overlord. The devotion would be better spent on Gray Merchant, huh?

Definitely. Especially in what I'm assuming is a multiplayer setting.

With so many wraths there's not much need for spot removal, especially with that general. In fact, I think she's plenty.

Yeah, with Kiku at the helm, and Creatures like {Avatar of Woe}, {Dark Impostor}, {Royal Assassin}, and things like all the board wipes, {Thornbite Staff} on one of the many death touches, and {Riever Demon} and {Dread Cacodemon}, I'm not too worried about a lack of killing things :P

{Thornbite Staff} can give poison counters too can't it? When paired with an infect creature?

Also, not really feeling {Tainted Strike} to be honest. I understand it's a 1-hit KO, but I think either equipment or an enchantment giving infect is just better, which you already have. I know that it can win games out of nowhere and allows for battle tricks, but I'm still not quite on board. Maybe it's my negative disposition towards infect as is haha.

I have to keep tainted strike. Being able to cast it on other people's creatures during combat for ultimate shenanigans is too good and too funny to pass up.

That reminds me, though, I forgot to add {Phyresis}! Silly me.

As much as I agree with this, disk is so slow... I feel like it's always going to get naturalized before I can untap it. That being said, I do want to keep the disk... Is there anything you would recommend cutting to make room for it? I need 7 cuts if I add the disk back in.

Title: Re: Kiku, Blight's Flower
Post by: Gorzo on December 11, 2014, 05:01:48 AM
Hythonia is a big deathtoucher scary threat person. She's not there as a board wipe, that's just a bonus that might happen :P I like her as a strong defensive card, which I have a feeling I'm going to need (which is why I've chosen to include Crawlspace).

Hand of the Praetor is an Infect Lord. Size being the main downside to infect creatures, anthems like him and Bad Moon are super helpful.

How about {Phyrexian Juggernaut} and {Ob Nixilis, the Fallen}? The Juggernaut is cool, but without trample it's just a fatty with Wither, which {Corrosive Mentor} makes for days. As far as Ob goes, without a bunch of fetches he's just mediocre, he gets big, sure, but without flying I can just see him getting chumped left and right. They seem relatively easy to drop.

Also, what about {Assault Suit}? I know the Haste, but there are far better options. Unless you just feel like giving out your guys. Idk, just not really seeing the pros with this thing.
Title: Re: Kiku, Blight's Flower
Post by: Gorzo on December 11, 2014, 12:24:04 PM
Ob Nixilis doesn't have flying? Didn't even notice that. I can cut him, then, he's just a vanilla fatty. Good call.

The juggernaut is harder to part with. That 5 Infect pretty much forces a block, making him either an {Abyss}, turns a threat into a weakling (removal), or devastates someone with poison counters. Plus, the plan is to give him the Assault Suit, making it a 7/7 Infect that attacks if able and can't attack me, and I'll just give him to every player every turn.
