Lol, Taysby is probably lurking around this thread silently regretting the choice of ever suing tron...

Anyways, I wasn't here last year. How does this whole "iMtG secret Santa thing" work?

Basically, people sent each other approximately $10 in Magic cards.

There were a few issues last time of people not sending. I'm not sure what can be done to prevent it. Any ideas?

You could always put an entry requirement of a specific number of trusted trader references. That would put the entry barrier at people who specifically care about their standing in the iMTG community.

I don't think you can ever remove the uncertainty of an untrustworthy person becoming involved, but you can minimize the risk.

I don't think we should do a certain amount trusted traders reference, because I have only had 1 completed trade (one in process) but that's just because I don't trade much :/

I have no problem with doing a secret santa deal, I would like to instill some sort of limitation however,or at least have mandatory tracking... I wouldn't wanna see any problems arising from people getting ripped off.

Poor taysby.. a freaking p9 piece? What are you made of? Does your body produce gold?

Taysby was joking lol and idk I hate to be that guy but mandatory tracking seems bad like that'll cost more than the gift. I've done a few trades and I've always gotten good feedback I send asap and am trusted so I don't see why I'd need to dish out an extra $10 (I know seems like a small amount but adds up for a college kid)

Is that because you're shipping internationally that tracking costs so much?

Keep in mind as I make that suggestion, I actually would not likely fit the prerequisite, as I only have two in process trades.

You have to put yourself in the position of someone taking the risk of involving someone without a reputation. That person walks away with $10+ cards for free with little recourse for those involved.

We vote a (very) trustworthy (probably mod) to be the recipient of all packages (pre-labeled in a second unsealed inner envelope) so that they may use a checklist to ensure everyone:
A) Sends
B) Sends more than the $ threshold
C) everything is on time (accumulates packages until ~Dec 15 then ships them all out)

That way said person checks off that person a and b both have sent their packages in as well as that said person then ships both packages out.

It is the best idea I've got though it puts all this in one persons lap pretty heavily...

That's an interesting concept. Although that person likely would have to be willing to incur extra shipping costs to reship. (Unless that inner envelope has postage prepaid?)

I could do that. As long as everyone puts extra postage in the envelope :P

With that case tracking wouldn't be needed I'd a mod received it, tracking would only needed to be sent to the mod.
Title: Re: Secret Santa this year?
Post by: Thetrufflehunter on November 20, 2014, 10:38:38 AM
To keep it in a timely fashion, we could do "everything will be sent from mod at x date" and everything not received by then, the person will get an alter coupon. This ensures everybody gets something by the correct date.

Well tracking or its on you to make sure it arrives and people don't feel Left out of it doesn't because you didn't track it.

Hopefully if there are several Canucks, we can keep regions separate for shipping ease.

Otherwise it will be mixed up

Agreed. I don't think we'd need more than 4-5 for US though. I can be one, and you could be another if you like? I dunno.

I dont want to participate, as I am in australia and it would just be a pain for whoever gets me. But I would like to point out that a minimum of 3 trades requirement may not be the best idea. Just as an example, I have had exactly 3 trades, but no one has bothered to add me to their trusted traders list. So for all intents and purposes I have had zero trades and wouldn't be allowed to participate. Also, I have also bought cards from people and added them to my trusted traders list. Would those count as successful trades? I just think things need to be clearly defined so it doesnt end up in tears.

As a fellow participant last year AND someone who recievee their gift late (February late), I feel that the previous rules of 3+ trusted trades to participate was fair last year.  With everyone worried about fixing some issues that happened last year I propose this:

15+ trusted trades according to arbitrator's list does not require tracking.

3-15 trusted trades requires tracking to be kept by a mod or whoever feels obligated to run the event this year.

<3 cannot participate.  I feel this will keep issues from arising with people nobody knows possibly getting a great gift but not sending out.

i just have a little suggestion on checking Arbis list since it hasnt been updated lately. I show only 2 trades there but have done almost 30. maybe theres another way to check for that so that no one gets screwed out of playing due to the list not being too current? Im not going to participate this year (hopefully next) but maybe this helps someone that wants to and cant because of the list not being current.

Ok let's get this moving!

Dec 15th is the send by date

Last year we had average value of $5 per gift

Lets step it up to $10 minimum value, $15 max.

No junk rares, actual value, please read people's needs or get creative. It doesn't have to be a card!

Truffle created the thread last year and I think it worked out pretty well, with the exception of some flakes.

For sending: Tracking tracking tracking. I am really strongly for this due to people sending multiple times etc. just save the bullshit for tracking. Easier that way.

Gonna sticky this to the top of misc discuss

Also: flake on this as a participant and you will be a non trusted trader. Don't participate if you plan to send your item in February.

Direct shipping with tracking

Your item gets lost cuz u don't track, it's on you to fulfill the exchange, otherwise you will be moved to untrusted trader.

It's just not fair for those who actually send their ends out on time.

Please don't sign up for this if you can't fulfill this.

Ill make a new thread for signing up.

Sign ups close November 30th 11:59 PM PST

Exchange info will be given out by the 4th

Send out by the Monday December 15th

Send $10 avg value minimum. Not bulk repacks either :p
