Title: Grave pact vs Dictate of erebos
Post by: Boomer17 on November 17, 2014, 12:12:31 PM
{grave pact} 1BBB - 4

{Dictate of Erebos} 3BB - 5

Do you all feel that the extra 1 gray casting cost is that problem matic for this card to stay under the radar. Is it worth it in an EDH over grave pact

I would run dictate just for the flash so you can use it as a combat trick and the {B}{B} makes it easier to splash.  However, if your deck could handle the {B}{B}{B} cost and your deck revolved around sac'ing or destroying your own creatures then maybe the flash as a combat trick is not needed and grave pact is better.

Once again the answer  to the question of "which is better?" Is "why not both?"

We are talking EDH, so to not have both in there seems like to get to either one will take twice as long as opposed to 1 in 50 we have 1 in 100 for a pretty much identical card (save flash and mana cost)

I'm not sure, I wasn't into magic at the time GP was printed originally, clearly it was reprinted a ton, I think dictate of ErebOs FOILS will be worth grabbing, but it seems JOU was well opened and forgot. 5CMC is always more than 4CMC...

IMO the 5CMC is equalized by two less {B}{B}. This makes the chances of you getting it in play in any deck that is not mono is probably the same. The flash just makes it better because your opponent never sees it coming.

It also allows you to leave your mana open which if you play blue can really hold opponents back and allow you to drop the card you wanted all along as their turn ends. The flash is just so versatile.

If you need a foil dictate, I'm your man 😜

I'd go with the Dictate. It saved my butt one game, :

My opponent had {Olivia Voldaren} on the field. His only creature. I had two elves and a {Terra Stomper}. I would win next turn if I could pull it off and if the guy did what I expected him to do. So, he burned my elf, I flash in dictate. He loses his commander, I win the game.

{Dictate of Erebos} Is a seriously underrated card. I run it in a Rakdos sac and grab deck, and I'm going to be running it in my {Twilight Drover} deck. If it's EDH run both. If it's not EDH try both. Figure out which one is better. I'm heavily leaning towards {Dictate of Erebos} personally. (Partially because I have a playset.)
