Title: Protection in EDH
Post by: Destore117 on November 01, 2014, 10:25:14 AM
{Knight of Glory} (or anything with protection) do they check the color identity in EDH? Or just the card's printed mana colors itself like in a normal format.

Protection doesn't change just because it's EDH. Identity doesn't matter for protection.

Thanks. Just was a bit confused cuz when you're picking cards their identity says "it's this color!" (So you can or cant use it.) But like. In game, it's not? EDH is a strange place.

Identity is based off the actual symbols used OK the card. Color is based off the mana cost. {Vaishino slaughtermaster} is red, but it's color identity is red black and green.

^^^

It's all about symbols vs text. Your mono red deck can run {Stormbreath Dragon} or {Arid Mesa} if you want, since those cards just say the words "white" or "search for a plains." You could not, however, in the same deck have a {Towering Thunderfist} (white mana symbol in the activated ability) or {Clifftop Retreat} (white mana symbol as well)
