Title: Optimal number of Fetchlands in EDH?
Post by: rarehuntertay on October 30, 2014, 07:47:53 PM
Hey guys, I was just wondering what the optimal number of fetchlands for a tri-colored EDH deck would be (since I can't seem to find a mana calculator are anything).
For reference, my deck's mana requirements are broken down as such:
Total Blue Mana Cost: 37
Total Black Mana Cost: 27
Total Red Mana Cost: 16
Total Colorless Cost: 144
There are no hybrid cards in my deck.
I am currently running {Bloodstained Mire} and {Polluted Delta}, and will acquire {Scalding Tarn} eventually. Should I just run those three or should I also include the off-color fetches?
Thanks guys!!!

If you can afford it? All of them that will fetch colors for you. I think they're great.

The downside is the epic amounts of shuffling you'll be doing.

You are allowed to have off color fetchlands?  Crap... Now I have to get a bunch of fetches...
Yes, you can have off color fetches because they don't have mana symbols

Yep. The EDH color identity is stupid, so you can do that. They're really good in EDH so, get on it.

The most I can run is 9... This is going to be expensive...

Welcome to Magic Tha gathering

This is why I'm considering selling a few commander decks of mine because they are $$$

If they weren't so damn good in the format I'd say don't bother. They're probably the most powerful lands in the format (Outside of ABU Lands). Anything that fetches colors, only deals 1 damage, miniscule amounts of deck thinning and shuffle.

I even put them above shocklands.

Well, I did just drop a bunch of $$$ on an Italian  {Chains of Mephistopheles}... Maybe I'll pick up one KTK fetch per pay check and get the Zendikar ones at tax time...

I'm in the same boat as you... Currently working on fetches for my derevi edh. I have 4 so far, still need a delta and all the zendikar ones minus catacombs

The only one I don't need to run is  {Windswept Heath}... But I'll probably get it anyways. I had the original ONS ones, but I think I like the KTK ones more due to flavor text. I hope (doubt it) that Zendikar fetches get reprinted in this block with flavor text...

This. They're nice, if you can afford them. And you need enough basics/shocks/duals in the deckto fetch with them, of course.

I don't run any fetches in my EDH, but it's purely a matter of budget. I don't really feel lacking without them, but I assure you that if money were no object, they'd be in there for sure - I can deal with some extra shuffling :P
