If a creature comes up and you cast it, does it come under your control? I figure that's kind of the point...

Worth noting say you get an {AEtherling} and you pay {U} to return it to it's owners hand it goes to the owner of the card (your opponent)

This is nitpicking, but you don't return it to anyone's hand. It goes to the exile zone until the end of turn, then returns to the battlefield under its owners control.
