I really feel like this forum can wreck some havoc on the magic world. I think we an official team, apparel, DCI level requirements,Must be a competitive player, and writers ;). Anyway, that might be taking too far, but I really think it would be cool to have a community "team" made of imtg best players, who can win events in the name of imtg. Anyway, just an idea. We can playtest on things like untap together, etc.
Set up a wall game tournament perhaps?
Winners could get apparel or other misc iMTG items. As well as be recognized as our official Magic The Gathering team. However they'd be needed to attend official events. Or something. Idk.

I like this, but not a lot of people can simply make time for opens and PTQs unfortunately. Especially cross country. I do like the concept though
I was thinking maintaining seasonal DCI points, or a certain amount of total dci points needed.
I do a super IQ every 6 week sand the SCG open dallas when they come up, states, etc. If you atleast do this, I think you are good enough to make the team (assuming you are a good player).
I think it'd be super cool. Doubt I'd qualify for much but I can write articles!
My suggestion would be to see who on imtg is in your area. And go from there. I thought about trying something like that but I really don't have the time or money to invest in the long hull. But good luck it sounds like a fun idea

Maybe to start getting some recognition turning in your deck list name with imtg on it might start something. I also think there are other things that we need to do to keep innovating different decks and try them out and keep a tally of how decks that are shared are doing record wise.

Yep. I'm in virginia. I dont play standard, but I could rock some EDH side event and whatnot. My LGS is doing an IQ I believe. With the new changes to FNM I might be playing more then usual. Especially if a sweet promo is involved.

First off though, we need to find a mod who can/wants/will do this, then, send to them the list of those who're wanting to do this, decks they're using. Then, as time goes on, give updates of event info (placings, DCI information? Like points and what not.)

I had an idea, it's a little of a stretch, but basically I was wondering if our iMTG reps could post their decks, and we could have sort of a group dedicated to improving their decks, tips and such, cuz it can help to get an outside opinion on your decks sometimes, pick up on some interaction you might have missed.
So like have our team iMTG, and then the iMTG "deck techs?" Would that be the term?

A professional player does not have a "deck" they play test every single deck in thr format and make decisions on what to play based on the current meta and testing. I currently have built Tom Ross's boss sligh, ross Meriams gb devotion, abzan/sultai delve, and a UB control list. It really depends on the meta and the environment of what dedk I plan to play in a given competitive rel tournament. You also have to consider factors like a players drafting and sealed skill besides how well they play constructed. Oh and if you ever need limited help/ best standard deck in a given time I'll be happy to help.
Well what could happen is they could post the deck list after the event of what they used
I personally would like this cuz people using professional names with a deck moniker after it don't tell me what it is. (Sligh? idk what that is.) Especially since saying something like GB devotion or Abzan delve there's so many different ways people could find to play that and make it work. One person's Abzan could be completely different than another. (Obviously depending. Due to standard having those few "play this or lose" decks.)
Now understandably I'm not keeping up with professional players and their deck lists. So this could be a silly suggestion that to the real competitive players is basically a given. Like you rattle off a name and everyone knows what you mean.
I don't though so being able to see our team's decks as well as what our other professional players are suggesting. Would just be something interesting to see personally.
(This IS an after thought, and we need a team set up first before any thing like this could happen anyways.)

Keeping up in EVENTs sub forum is huge
Weekly deck testing on untapped or cockatrice, trying out decks each person posts, noting strengths and weaknesses to help prepare for upcoming events.
Support of each other through social media that is accessible and succinct: basically Instagram and twitter. Facebook and tumblr are garbage for social media when it comes to promotional material to strangers. You want people who have never heard of us to pique their interest in the team.
Major events usually you will all have to try to get the same brew going to see if it can make it to day 2.
Cards: sharing your available pool to local members. If Johnny needs 2 temples of malady and a nissa but can't afford it. Johnny should have the support of his regional members to lend cards for a major tournament. If local members Don't have access at all, mail borrowing through each established regional leader would be another solution to save funds for hotels/travel arrangements.
Once established, dues from winnings should be distributed with intention. Make sure things are paid for, even if a member didnt make it to day 2, he shouldn't be penalized with a burden of a bill when another member wins several thousands and both members put in equal work. A team won't survive if it doesn't operate like a team. Selfishness will only divide the potential groups.

So instead of swagger and all that stuff, focus on building decks that destroy current metas and come from left field. Swagger will come later when you make money. If you spend $500 to print mats and shirts and only intend to sell them to the forum.....well you better make a sweet ass design of a playmat.
I have that sweet ass design fr a playmat, but it's big production shoot. Once finished: every geek will want it and I know how to perfectly promote it. Of course not all business secrets can be shared in post one ;!

I can get behind this. However, i think instead of "Team The Gathering Forum" we just call ourselves "The Gathering Forum." Sounds much smoother.

Well my playmat idea is not going to be shared until I finish shooting it. My gf and I have planned this for a lil bit and want to find the right models and location for the shoot. Then after that probably find an amazing photoshop editor for touch ups, then finding the right place to print the mats. Ill probably retail my mats @ $30 each as they will be for sure in demand. Depends on my printing price also.
As far as forum team goes:
Establish regions
Create a post in events:
"Gathering Team" California
"Gathering Team" Northwest
"Gathering Team" Chicago
Etc Etc
People interested in playing with the group join the respective groups that apply closest to your locale
No point in saying "I wanna play with team Cali, but I live in NY and can never make the events because my parents won't let me travel"
Be practical, I would propose established members of the forum should have priority on leadership for regions. Someone who is patient and strong with communicating. Someone who is willing to pick up a minor like truffle for an event and it won't be a big deal.
For people relying on fellow members like this for support for rides to events. You gotta give em gas money. No one should pay for anyone else's way, but compensation when due should be paid for. Otherwise people get salty.
Once each locale has 4-8 members, schedule a weekly playtest that works for everyone. I believed untapped.net still works as a client for testing, so everyone should be able to test. No drops, you ride your deck till you die in the game. Skype/vent to keep communication clear and to also help eachother remember triggers as if you were playing competitive REL. record your misplay down so you can see after the game is over if that costed you the match.
Play the game as if your opponent knows as much about your deck as you do. If you get thoughtseized: just keep those revealed cards revealed.
If you thoughtseize: WRITE DOWN the cards revealed to assume you won't see them as mentioned above.
Improving your play habits as you test will make you a stronger player. I say this as I know my misplays at the GP costed me a loss by 1 life difference between me and opponent.
Once you establish a a playgroup, major events within 300 miles of where you live will become much more accessible and feasible.
I'm an adult; so I can Goto GPLA, Phoenix, SLC and Denver. I schedule it in advance too! So if you know there is a GP coming up, schedule it, minors, let your parents know about it, do your best to come up wih your fees for the tournament. If you can prove to your parents your hobby Won't be a burden on them, and they trust your guardian for the trip (hence patient good communicator who is an adult is needed) you will be able to do more events.
If you say you're getting Ina car with a guy named mike from 40 miles away and he's bringing you to a card show they heard about two days ago....they'll probably say no and ask police to investigate mike as he sounds like someone who needs to be running into Chris Matthews (to catch a predator)
Basically it's extending your playgroup past your LGS, and if you put true intention, it can thrive

As much as I like the idea of sharing I would be careful. Also an idea might be a dues per meeting. Five bucks from 8 people adds up fast. But make sure you figure out and have everything on pape before you start doing stuff like this. I have seen a lot of bs happen over money.

We just have to protect ideas out here. My gf shared an photo shoot idea with another model she worked with for a project and that model blabbed it to her "photographer" friend who then all of the sudden was shooting the idea without my GFs approval. And the model was just interested in the photographer romantically. So we lost a model for that shoot, she lost a friend, and now someone is doing her concept all janked up. So we gotta start from scratch as far as models go again. Probably gonna shoot it in the spring. The magic playmat id like to do before Feb.

We decided against that, as we aren't actually team imtg.
The way I see the team has a problem. We need 3 types of players. The first type of player is the favored format player. These people play only one format well and try to master it. They can be legacy legends, modern masters, standard stars, or limited lovers, but they are essential to try to help teach the intricate details of a new format, and can hopefully write articles about their experience.
The second are the brewmasters and we need some amazing ones. Like any good society, good brews bring people good times. This type of player is highly innovative, and can try to crack a format with unexpected ways of looking at it. That being said, the best artists learn from their peers and so should we.
The final type of player is the side grinder. These players go and win the most prizes for the team. I personally believe that these are the most valuable early on, and must understand that they are trying to place in money at all costs, but not block our star player from the top slots.
We can figure out who ends up where, and who is the team's star player later. We also must have face to face meetings in each of the 3 main locations at a major event. Interested members should chose a GP in the west coast, central US, and east coast ASAP to get our ball rolling and must attend a meeting wearing a name tag with their username, real first name, and location on it. I'll leave small details to everyone else, but I really want this as we have some very talented players and I want them to succeed.

It's been a while, but I think this is still a thing we should do. I'm going to bump the regional list as well.
I'm down. I try to get out to events at my LGS, and I'm becoming much more serious about playing professionally. I'm setting up savings to start going to bigger events in the future. For now I'm limited to northern Cali, western Nevada area. My favored formats are standard and modern, and I'm the brewmaster in my group.
I go to every PPTQ in our area, topped 8 my last one with 4th and have another this week. Sadly I missed the state champs in Dallas last week :( but I'd definitely be down, I'm more-so a modern player than anything but I'd be willing to try and rack up points to be in a team like this.

It is. My opponent gets very uncomfortable when I show them my PP. But sometimes it can be intimidating when I whip out my PP and my opponent has more than me.

Hey there. So I'm not as active on te boards as I would like but I'd be very happy to get in on this.
I play legacy and am brewing a new modern deck that I think is competitive. I also like limited and EDH (for the edh pro for that is juuuuust around the corner).
I have a legacy podcast on mtgcast.com and have agreed to start a legacy article on mtggoldfish.com
I cannot attend many tournaments at all though unless my situation changes drastically :/
I do not have internet reliable enough for MODO but I play wall games and I play on untap.
I vote for forum walkers. I like its connection to how we interact. Also many of us travel to other , strange forums sometimes, such flavor.
No way I'd be good enough to qualify for anything, being the noob who has only played for a few months. But I can tag along behind our champions and scare the 💩 out of the other guys 😂
This kind of crashed and burned last time we tried this, but it's worth a try! Problem is, how dense is each area with people from this forum.

that's why we're putting together the regional team list. Any event someone is going to can be cross checked for other people in the area.
