Post by: xDeGroatx on October 05, 2014, 10:17:18 PM
If my opponent has a 2/2 creature and casted a  {Giant Growth} so i use my  {Shock} , does the creature die? Or no

I assume you cast it in response, in which case, yes, it has not gotten the +3/+3 yet and thus it is still a 2/2. It dies.

so what would benefit you would be understanding the stack which will clear up both of these questions. so whenever any player plays a spell (basically every card that is not a land is a spell before it "resolves" or takes effect.) ill note the exceptions at the bottom. so basically whenever i want to play a card, before it does anything, my opponent always gets a chance to respond before it takes effect. so in your example, a 2/2 {grizzly bears} is on the field. the interaction between {giant growth} and {shock} is all about which resolves first. say the player with the {grizzly bear} attemps to {giant growth} after he had attacked but before the combat damage step, his opponent has two choices. let that resolve, and the bear becomes a 5/5, or in response, shock the still 2/2 bear. on the flip side, say im attacking with my {grizzly bear}. you try to {shock him} and i respond with {giant growth}. now hes a 5/5 with two damage marked on him. the stack always resolves first in last out. so you played shock, added to the bottom of stack, i play giant growth, added above, neither of us have responses to either, the stack goes to resolve and last out resolves first meaning the spell or ability most recently placed there, giant growth.

lastly the exceptions. some spells have special abilities which dont let your opponent respond in a normal way. this ability is called "split second" and can be seen on a card like {sudden death}. if i cast {sudden death} on your {fleecemane lion} you wont be able to cast {giant growth} because of split second.
