Title: Group Consensus Pt. 12
Post by: Spikepit on September 20, 2014, 09:26:51 AM
So I was flicking through cards tinkering with an umpteenth EDH deck I'm making and I come across a card that made me nostalgic and I remember it being a polarising little spell. I'm interested to see what these newer generationers think.

So, is {Glittering Wish} a good card and why?

I remember the first Wish cycle from Judgement. :P

That was when I first got serious about Magic was during Odyssey block, playing competitively and whatnot.

{Golden Wish}
{Cunning Wish}
{Death Wish}
{Burning Wish}
{Living Wish}

Pretty much it means from your sideboard!

Graveyard and exile are still "in the game"
In most competitive tournaments, it means from your sideboard.
Casually, I assume, anything in your collection.

funnily enough, when exile used to be the "removed from game" zone, you could burning wish for an exiled burning wish

My buddy has a pretty sweet modern 4-color everything but {R} goodstuff list that runs {Glittering Wish}, and it's actually pretty legit. I'm a big fan of the card, I just really wish that EDH decks could have sideboards.

Wish cards usually grab from sideboard

EDH has a 10 card sideboard

Are you sure? Everywhere I've seen edh rules explained it says that a deck consists of 99 cards plus one card (your commander) in the sideboard.

Optional rules for Commander
Sideboards
Rather than filling every deck with banal responses, it is preferable to allow some flexibility in the composition of a deck.

Players may bring a 10 card sideboard in addition to their 99 cards and 1 Commander.
After Commanders are announced, players have 3 minutes to make 1-for-1 substitutions to their deck.
Any cards not played as part of the deck may be retrieved by "wishes".
Reasoning:

Highly tuned threats piloted by skilled opponents mandate efficient answers. The minimum number of response cards required to ensure they are available in the early turns can easily overwhelm the majority of an EDH deck's building space.

Sideboards allow players to respond to the "best" strategies in a timely fashion . They should be strongly considered as a necessary defense against brokenness and degeneracy in an environment where no gentlemans agreement on style of play exists.

Fair enough. Now that you mention it though, that does sound familiar. I'll just use my go-to response in these sort of situations. I was drunk when I saw that.

I love the wording of that ruling, it made my day! "If no gentlemen agree..." HA!

Dude....think of all of the cool things you can get from a sideboard with that. 5 color control in Modern and get stuff like {Dreadbore}, {Supreme Verdict}, {Sphinx's Revelation}, {Cruel Ultimatum}, {Terminate}, {Abrupt Decay}, {Maelstrom Pulse}...like I know this is bad, but I still want to do it...
