Title: Prerelease Colors
Post by: Agrus Kos, Enforcer of Truth on September 14, 2014, 11:10:19 AM
What colors are you guys (and gals) going? I'm currently in between Jeskai, Sultai, and Abzan. Which do you think is the strongest?

I'm thinking junk. The outlast mechanic should rule the weekend IMO.

Abzan and mardu are what I'm thinking. Any advice?

I personally am running Abzan. I may go Ceta.

Am I the only one who is thrilled to pieces with Temur?

Either Temur or Abzan, both seem pretty strong in limited. Do we know what the promos will be? It really depends on my pool too but Id like to play either of those clans.

There's always five color good stuff :P

They haven't really explained the promos, past there being 8 possible promos per tribe, one of which is the khan.

I'm going with Jeskai and Temur. Hopefully will get some good white outlast cards to go with Jeskai and green ones for Temur if I end up playing those colors.

Abzan or temur seem the most powerful

White and black seem like pretty easily the two best colours in commons and uncommons, so that leaves me with Abzan or mardu. I'm a bit torn because it seems that if you get a good mardu pool, it'll be crazy, good, but the only problem is that they're the aggro deck, so the fixing isn't exactly geared towards them. Abzan however, can easily get blown out by mardu, or a quick jeskai or Temur deck, but otherwise they seem super strong

Mardu

My prerelease does two headed giant. I'm going Jeski and my cousin is going Mardu. We'll have access to everything but green, which I honestly think is the weakest colour right now.

Temur most likely.  I just hope to get the Khan for that guild in seeded pack.

I'm doing a 2HG sealed event with my friend and we chose temur and abzan. I wanted to pick mardu, but I feel as though the raid mechanic will be a bit worse in a 2hg setting, where you'll have to attack into two players worth of creatures. I already had a pretty good feeling about outlast, and much unlike raid I feel like it shines a bit more in a 2hg setting, where you can afford to tap down some creatures knowing you have a partner with blockers available.

Then I just love Temur and it seems decently strong for limited so that was an easy choice for me :p

Oh, and correct me if I'm wrong but aren't the pre-release foils that are included the 5 mana wedge rares, like {ivorytusk tower}, {ankle shanker} and {avalanche tusker}?

With ktk the promo foils will be one of 8 different random options for each clan. 40 in total. So far possible promos have been confirmed to be the khans, the ascendencies, and probably the intro pack rares

Ah I see. I'm not sure how I feel about that, because although it makes for a more varied and interesting environment it also makes for less balance.

I feel like the guaranteed promo cards in the past have (mostly) kept things somewhat level. Now we're at a place where someone could have the worst of the 8, and someone else could have the best of the 8.

But hey we'll see, I'm excited to see how it goes.

I'm thinking the promo, because who knows what you'll hit, I'm definitely going with ankle shanker

After doing a massive amount of simulated sealed, I've found that Abzan, Mardu and Temur work out the best for me. Jeskai is good, but not quite there, and Sultai is just.... Eh...

I don't know how random it is, but it seems pretty effective. Courtesy of Argus of course ;)

I'm so excited for this!!! I have to agree with this article on the ranking of clans.

http://www.channelfireball.com/articles/pvs-playhouse-khans-of-tarkir-prerelease-primer/

That is:

1. Abzan
2. Temur
3. Mardu
4. Jeskai
5. Sultai

Abzan is the clear winner, as it is consistent, and it has the best overall rare pool. Temur and Mardu are both really good options as well. Jeskai is okay, but most of the best cards in jeskai can be played in other clans. Also prowess encourages you to play noncreature spells, as well as creatures with prowess, and that's just awkward. Sultai is not good. As he states in this article, delve cards are better when played in other clans, because you never want more then a couple. The mechanic conflicts with itself. Also, the sultai rares aren't great.

The only thing I don't like is retribution of the ancients as an Abzan promo. Otherwise it would be 100% perfect
