Title: Planeswalker uniqueness rule
Post by: blackychan1 on September 04, 2014, 11:11:52 PM
I wa reading the rulings for {gideon, champion of justice}, and it references the "planeswalker uniqueness rule", but it says that both of the walker would die, not just one... Am I reading the ruling right?

Yes you're reading the ruling right. Must Neil's school legend rules.

The ruling you're referring to was made on 1/24/2013, before the legendary and Planeswalker uniqueness rules were changed upon the release of Theros block (or was it m14 core?) later that year.

At the time, the legendary/PW uniqueness rule would have had both permanents go to the graveyard, as described. Now, however, since the rule has been changed, you would select one, and all others with the same name (or Planeswalker type) would be moved to graveyard instead, as go the current uniqueness rules.

last ruling on gatherer for {gideon, champion of justice}:
7/1/2013   If a player controls two or more planeswalkers that share a planeswalker type, that player chooses one of them and the rest are put into their owners' graveyards as a state-based action.

This is correct, updated rules. It is rule 306.4.
It was changed at release of M14.

They keep them. Each players legendary creatures only effect them self.
