Title: Anyone use satellite tv?
Post by: Gorzo on September 01, 2014, 06:27:57 AM
So here's my situation.

I'm fed up with Time Warner and how badly they are screwing me. And I mean BAD. We're talking throttled Internet they refuse to rectify, frequent disconnecting of phone and net, pixelating/digital distortion in my hd channels, DVR recordings that frequently distort and have ruined sections, a bill that keeps rising due to a plan that they signed me up for that I never agreed to and told them I did not accept the ridiculous terms to...

Anyway, since I'm probably going to end up going to court with these stubborn criminals, I need a new provider of tv, phone, and Internet. I've been looking into Dish network or DirectTV, but I've had no experience with satellite, and would love some feedback from anyone who has. Let me know what provider you use. Have you had a good experience? Bad? I want to hear about it!

Did/does your satellite provider also provide Internet? How would you rate it? What kind of down/up rates do you get?

I use direct tv. They are pretty good for tv. Costumer service is good. Once in a while strong winds or storms it goes out. I would recommend them. As far as internet no idea with direct tv.

I use comcast for internet. Fastest service I can get. Their costumer service is shitty.

Yeah, Comcast is notorious for their customer service. Have you heard any of the videos released recently of customers recording their calls while just trying to end their service with Comcast? It's maddening. Another reason I want nothing to do with time Warner anymore, since they will be becoming Comcast soon.

Thanks for the info on direct tv though! How often do you notice the weather affecting your signal? And how bad does the wind/storm need to be?

I use directv and centurylink for tv and internet. overall im really satisfied. sometimes my tv gets pop up messages that are annoying since it forces me to get the "tv remote" to interact with them as opposed to the normal
cable remote. now in terms of disconnecting and pixelation/distortion, are you sure its not just a problem of bad service/weather in your area? have you talked to neighbors/nearby friends about what services they use and if they are satisfied? best of luck.

I would say in the past year I lost signal about four times for a long period of time. It's not as bad as I thought it would be. But your ever can hold a boatload of space. And if you have a wired internet you can use their on demand.

I have Dish for TV/DVR and don't have any real complaint. I know they offer internet too but I have that through Windstream, which I really like. Fast, quick service, only drawback bring that their modems seem to have a short shelf life.

I have Dish Network. As far as TV is concerned, I think it's superb. I can save plenty of episodes and record 8 at a time, and the picture is always clear with the exception of when in bad weather. For internet and phone i have AT&T and it's spotty at best, but not terrible. I don't really know anything about DishNet, but they do provide internet service.
