Title: Breaking the metagame.
Post by: IntoFire on August 26, 2014, 05:55:59 AM
I want to try a competitive new decl that can perform as a future archetype that has almost not been made yet.

{B}{W} Constellation:

4 {Temple of Silence}
4 {Godless Shrine}
4 {Caves of Koilos}
2 {Orzhov Guildgate}
3 {Swamp}
3 {Plains}

4 {Doomeake Giant}
4 {Nyx Fleece-Ram}
4 {Underworld Coinsmith}
2 {Eidolon of Countless Battles}
2 {Master of the Feast}

4 {Underworld Connections}
4 {Ethreal Armor}
4 {Banishing Light}
4 {Bile Blight}
4 {Hero's Downfall}
2 {Thoughtseize}

I played a very similar deck right after JOU came out, it was an attrition-ey combo-ey deck that used {Eidolon of Blossoms}, {Grim Guardian}, {Courser of Kruphix}, {Banishing Light}, {Pharika, God of Afflictions}, etc. to cantrip enchantments and kill them. Sadly, I had to scrap the deck because {Back to Nature}. The moral of the story, {Back to Nature} is why this isn't a deck. If your meta is low on enchantment hate though, go for it, just don't play it every week, people will catch on.

It might be worth splashing green for {Mana Bloom} with X=0 as a costalation trigger.

No, Pharika is much better. When I played the deck {Mana Bloom} was WAY too slow.

I'm not completely sure how this deck breaks the meta when the new most popular deck is uw control which this scoops too, looks like it has good rw burn and rabble red based matchups if that's your meta though!

He's right, but if you sideboard (or even mainboard) {Golgari Charms} you matchups get easier all around. It kills aggro and saves you against control.

I see your point. {Pharika, God of Affliction} does require creatures in graveyard though. {Heliod, God of Idec} would work too.

Pharika and {Mana Bloom} do totally different things.  And I'm curious how a card that requires YOU to have creatures in your yard and still costs 2 mana to activate to get a constellation trigger is "fast" and paying one mana to draw a card is slow?  This is a serious question, as I don't play constellation decks but the card advantage generated by {Mana Bloom} seems pretty legit.
You draw enough that you can ditch creatures during the clean up step (especially if you have more than 1 {Eidolon of Blossoms}), she is instant speed, and the build up of deathtouchers keeps Midrange at bay, while allowing you to get a big lethal swing to finish the job. But of course, my deck was more combo-ey with {Grim Guardian}, and {Eidolon of Blossoms} doing SO much work.
