Player has {Ajani Steadfast}'s emblem in play and that player get attacked by a creature with double strike. Assuming no blocks, how much damaging will be done?
I'm assuming 2, as one damage will be done in the first strike combat phase and one damage in regular combat stage.
Reference:
−7: You get an emblem with "If a source would deal damage to you or a planeswalker you control, prevent all but 1 of that damage."
510.5. (http://imtgapp.com/forum/index.php?action=imtg;area=rule;number=510.5.): If at least one attacking or blocking creature has first strike (see rule 702.7) or double strike (see rule 702.4) as the combat damage step begins, the only creatures that assign combat damage in that step are those with first strike or double strike. After that step, instead of proceeding to the end of combat step, the phase gets a second combat damage step. The only creatures that assign combat damage in that step are the remaining attackers and blockers that had neither first strike nor double strike as the first combat damage step began, as well as the remaining attackers and blockers that currently have double strike. After that step, the phase proceeds to the end of combat step.
This was the closest ruling I could find. Given that there are two damage steps and players receive piority in between, I would agree with you that you'll take 2.
End result would be two damage.
Important wording: "if a source would deal damage..."
The double strike creature would deal damage on two separate occasions. Once during the first strike damage step (which gets reduced to 1) and then a second time during the regular damage step (which gets reduced to 1).
That's what I thought. But I might as well double check with you guys :)
