Title: Good modern decks under 200-400 dollars?
Post by: Hunteroffire9 on August 19, 2014, 02:53:32 PM
So Christmas/my birthday is coming up in 3-4 months and im interesting in purchasing. During these 3-4 months, I would like to proxy the the deck I plan to build, and playtest irl and play it on untap.in and master the deck. So here are the options I know of:

Monoblue/gifts tron: solid choice but not really my style

Hatebears/Death and Taxes: not a bad choice but seems rather bland.

Burn: just no, nooby would rather play tron, unless I want to go cheap probably not.

I want to build  a teir 1 to 1.5, cant think of anything else on the top of my head, but thoughts?

Can't you build mono-green infect cheap? I don't play the format, but I think {Mutagenic Growth} and all the Voltron cards are common and uncommon.

Ive learned how to play mono blue tron in 30 minutes, and it seems really fun. I think I might look into tron, but rg is expensive. Isnt mono black tron a deck?

Yes. I've never seen gifts tron play though if that's what you're doing. My suggestions would be the slightly budgeted Merfolk deck

Yes it can, it's around 75 $ if you don't own all the cards and the only costly one is {inkmoth nexus}. It's a mean deck if you play it right, but it's bug brother is much more reliable.

the teir one version is quite expensive with all the fetch lands, im looking for more a teir one deck, and fine with spending 200+ dollars.

Thanks for everybodies input, After looking through several lists, and hearing what you have to say I think I have my decision. I love control, but all the control decks are 800+ dollars. I think gifts tron is the closest I can get to control, and still have a fun time.

Here is Reid Duke UW Tron/Control/Gifts deck. I am thinking about building it if fetches don't get reprinted in the next year.

I'd built Merfolk myself. It can double as a legacy deck if you want. Just change out the {Remand} for {Force of Will}, and {Standstill} for like {Spreading Seas}. The bulk of the deck can stay.

Merfolk seems good, not totally sure what the price will be but it can run without fetches, which is a plus.

Why don't you find lists for some of these decks and play a bunch on untap.in and see what you like best?

Try merfolk. There aren't many pricey cards, it's really only {Mutavault} and {aether vial}, and it's pretty competitive.

You use {Cunning Wish} to go through junk rare bins and find a {One with Nothing}. But seriously, you just play the control game, beat with Colonnade and eventually hard cast Emrakul.

Huge fan of Living End. Most combo decks outside of Pod can be built cheap if you take out fetches. Another good choice is white weenies.
