Title: Not really stoked about AVR
Post by: Nobbert on April 10, 2012, 08:25:36 AM
Am I the only one not looking outward to this set?  I mean, everything just seems broken. This miracle ability is no problem with {ponder} out, and the new card {angel of jubilation} shuts down burn decks (which I happen to like) and basically every demon card. And there's another angel that makes it so that you can't make your opponent sac a creature, which sucks for control decks. I only came into this game at DKA, but I really like it and now this set is really not asking me not look forward to FNMs anymore. All these cards are going to be expensive because of how good they are, and I can't keep dropping all this money

My strategy, buy one fat pack, one box, and buy singles..

One main deck

Trade for everything else

Trade multiples to trade up and have value cards for when you need them, sell high and buy what you need with earned cash

Always collect standard dual lands, never know who may need them

Mtg is always changing and evolving.  That's one of the reasons why it's been around so long.  There will be other cards in the set that balance it out.  You're just seeing a small sample of the set.  There will be plenty of commons, and uncommons that will seem just sat broken.  You just gotta adapt.

I dot think {Ponder}, looking only at the top three cards, is going to be setting up Miracles as often as people think. I'm a little worried about this powering up the already dominating Delver.
Otherwise, lm pretty stoked.

Delver uses blue and white right?  Have any of the blue or white miracles been spoiled?

I got to thinking last night about this same topic of whether AVR was broken and I realized that it will either be broken like OP said or it will make standard really diverse. Ex. Based on my best guess There will be a couple new decks already, temperial mastery, an angel deck, frites might make a return, I'm going to build a {druid's repository} deck, and maybe control. That's 5 new decks with only 16 cards revealed. Think about how { grafdiggers cage} was hyped to kill a lot of decks but those decks are being played

I think everyone just subconsciously agreed not to use that card.

It's a silver-bullet card for Legacy/Vintage/Modern players to use against strong Dredge/Reanimator decks that can do crazy stuff on first-second turn.

Very true.  Dredge decks are just ridiculous in Legacy.  If you ever want to play a game where you just sit there while your opponent mills himself for half his library, destroys your hand and puts a ton of 2/2 zombies on the BF and kill you on T1 or T2 all without playing a land......then play against a good dredge deck.

This happened to me. 👎
I asked if I could join in with some guys I saw playing and they said, "sure man, we're just doing some casual." I played my Eldrazi token deck and met a legacy dredge. He did exactly what you said and then, I kid you not, said,"Looks like I win again, lol." 👉😓😡 mfw he feels 60 turn 2 zombies are casual.

I feel like all a deck has to add to play {temporal mastery} is {Jar of Eyeballs}. Finally! A real use!

W00t. Jar of 👀!  My thinking is, if all your deck is filled with cards trying to get a cheap extra turn, what are you going to do with that extra turn if your deck is full of {Ponder}s and {Jar of Eyeballs}?

My thoughts exactly jester. Extra turns are nice, but by themselves aren't winning you games any time soon.

I think this card is awesome, and I'd put four in any deck that could support it.  But I'd play it in a control deck with big, evasive fatties that can stomp hard if they get an extra attack.

Once won a game like that with a {carnfex demon} and a {time warp}. XD
