Title: Token trouble
Post by: Popper23345 on August 06, 2014, 09:20:03 AM
Ok, so I was playing a nice, casual game with my friend, and I lay down a {hornet queen}.  Then, he uses a card(I forget which one) but it said "return target creature to its owners hand". He said he could remove my 1/1 green hornet creature token because it said creature in it, but my response was, "but it's not a creature, because it doesn't have a casting cost and it can't be in your hand"
HeLp :S

Token creatures are creStures so can be bounced. Once they leave the battle field to go back to your hand they cease to exist.

Close llama. Counters immediately cease to exist, tokens cease to exist as a state based action. This confused me for about a month and I had to read and re-read the rules on this before it finally sank in.

110.5f (http://imtgapp.com/forum/index.php?action=imtg;area=rule;number=110.5f): A token that's phased out, or that's in a zone other than the battlefield, ceases to exist. This is a state-based action; see rule 704. (Note that if a token changes zones, applicable triggered abilities will trigger before the token ceases to exist.)

^ so this is essentially the ruling that allows tokens to trigger effects from cards like {Extractor Demon}?

Pretty much, yup!

;) I probably won't be on as often as before, but yes, I'll do my best to at least check in regularly (and I'll frequent the rules section when I do!)
