What is a cheaper replacement for  {Misty Rainforest} and  {Verdant Catacombs}?

They are pretty close to impossible to replace, that is why they are worth so much. However you can always run more dual lands, but replacing fetch lands is going to be difficult either way, nothing comes close, there will be color deficiencies with others.

You're just going to have to increase your land count.

{evolving wilds} is the closest thing you will get.

I feel like just running more basics would be better...

The best replacement for Misty Rainforest is Scalding Tarn or Verdant Catacombs

The best replacement for Verdant Catacombs is Marsh Flats or Misty Rainforest.

There's a cycle of allied-colored fetches from Mirage that enter tapped, but don't cost life to activate.  They can even fetch non-basics!

{Flood Plain}
{Bad RIver}
{Rocky Tar Pit}
{Mountain Valley}
{Grasslands}

{Krosan Verge} is a little slow, but it also works for your non-basic-fetching needs.

Aren't they not modern legal?
Correct, they are not modern legal.
