I love {Bloodchief Ascension} but not in this build. Pillow fort isn't made to attack is it?
{Everflowing Chalice} is meh. I've never used it so I don't know.
{Liliana of the Dark Realms} doesn't quite fit for me.
{Etherwrought Page} seems to not fit too much. What does it end up as, a second Oloro?
{Soul Tithe} is underwhelming.
{Ensnaring Bridge} and {Venser's Journal} are of the opposite nature. Pick one. It seems that {Mesa Enchantress} is your only draw engine. I would say drop the journal.

{collective restraint}?
If you're not running "counter magic", than {defense grid}?
{land tax} can really help thin your deck, so you don't run into massive amounts of land.
{feroz's ban} -evil.
{desolation}
{orb of dreams}? +{amulet of vigor}?
{storm cauldron}? - I feel bad for suggesting this...

I think {Furoz's Ban} is kinda slow, and not terribly good (I also own a {Nether Void}...so) and probably {Blind Obedience}. I know you probably want to work the Extort angle, but I feel like you're doing better things then just slowing down opponents artifacts or creatures.

{No Mercy} is really good too.

{No Mercy} + {First Response}. Come at me bro.

{No Mercy} is the black {Moat}. Hell of a lot cheaper, gets around things like shroud/hexproof (doesn't target). Basically makes your opponent wait until they can one-shot you.

Which they'll never be able to do with {ensnaring bridge} >:D

{Greater Auramancy} is interesting, but doesn't {Aura Shards} just blow it up and then everything else? How has it been? It has piqued my interest.

I have yet to play test. At worst it's going to save an enchantment and hopefully I'll have a torpor orb for that.

Understandable. I'm leaning towards that, but feel like I would have to cut something that is a lot better then saving an enchantment. I'm going to test it Wednesday.

I run {Karmic Justice}, {Return to Dust} and {Vindicate} (amongst other things) to deal with {Aura Shards} directly, and you're in a position to shed some cards.

A 60 card EDH deck? :P  Anyway, the deck looks great.  How much does it cost?

60 non land cards :P If I cut/proxy the $50+ cards, it's 300 dollars. If not it's $900.

Could I convince you to drop {Ensnaring Bridge} so you don't have to buy/proxy it? You don't want to top deck, you ideally want to draw cards. Bridge becomes less useful if things are going right.
Title: Re: Oloro Pillow Fort - Trimming The Fat

And more than useful if things are going wrong. I don't like being attacked. It would be very hard to drop ensnaring bridge.

Title: Re: Oloro Pillow Fort - Trimming The Fat

Oh my. Alright, lets have a look! I'll edit with some opinions :)

You can probably cut a land. I've never had an issue running 38.

Does {Rest in Peace} do anything for you? You can probably cut it, unless it has a use I'm not seeing.

I see {Land Tax} and multiple spells like {Equipoise} that require your opponents to have more lands than you to work...seems like once land tax happens, the others are gonna stop working, no?

I see Web of Inertia and black Leyline now. Yeah, those and Rest in peace are a thing. It's also 3 cards to devote to one thing... A good thing, sure, but you're at that point where you need to decide if it's worth it because those final cuts are so, so hard.

And I'm about to make them harder - where's  {Windborn Muse}? :P

You're definitely at the point that I find the hardest - those last cuts are so hard, and you don't want to lose any of those cards! I still can't decide the last ones to cut from my Sydri deck lol

Okokok I'll cut the leyline of the void and web, but SOME graveyard hate has to stay, so I'm going to have to keep rest in peace. I'm also gonna cut land tax, which will save me a few bucks, so thanks :)) And curse you for finding {windborn muse}!!!

So now that have cut the deck down to 100, what do you guys/gals think if it? Is it proper Pillowfort? Does it seem like it will hold up in a group?
Title: Re: Oloro Pillow Fort - Trimming The Fat
Post by: Gorzo on August 13, 2014, 03:54:39 AM
I've never actually done a pillow fort deck, but it looks like it should work pretty well! You'll have to to test by playing it. A lot of times I'll only find a card to be unhelpful when I get to actually playing the deck, and notice a certain card sitting in my hand multiple times without ever being a good option to cast.

I like necropotence. This is more of a slowly bleeding you opponents deck, so I'm going to pass on the sovereign. Plus, I don't think it will last on the board very long.

{Mystic Remora}? Probably better then {Rhystic Study} and is good at various points in the game. {4} is a huge tax, even later in the game. I usually draw 6-7 cards with it, comared to maybe 2-3 with Rhystic.

That combo doesn't work if they cast a creature spell. They will all untap and I don't run enough creatures to even justify cutting 3 cards if I wanted the combo.

I've actually been considering it. It's cheap enough that if it dies it won't hurt that bad and it's annoying to play against. What would you cut for it?

Potentially {Baneful Omen} or {Desolation}
Desolation hurts you as well and the omen seems kinda bad.

Which? {Overburden}? I like that it's non-token, because it let's {Elspeth, Knight-Errant}, {Sorin, Lord of Innistrad} do work. I've been testing {Tainted Æther} lately too. I like it.
