Title: Combat damage triggers + double strike
Post by: redwolv on July 19, 2014, 11:45:29 AM
So when a creature with double strike hits a player it deals twice its damage, so a 2/2 would deal 4 damage. My question is if i had a creature like  {Daxos of Meletis} and gave it double strike with something like {Battle Mastery}, if he hits the player would his ability tigger twice? The first strike effect causing the first tigger, and the nornal damage causing the second.

Yes it would trigger twice. Once at the first strike damage and once during normal damage.

It'll trigger twice, yes.  As a fun note, after the trigger in the first Combat Damage step resolves, you get priority.  If you exile an instant-speed pump spell off Daxos, you could cast it before the normal combat damage step.

Could you give an example of the the exile thing? I don't quite understand what you are saying.

So, you attack a player with a Daxos with double strike.  First Strike damage happens, your opponent takes 2 damage, and Daxos' trigger goes off, and you exile, say, a {Giant Growth}.  Since you get Priority, you can actually cast the Giant Growth right then to pump Daxos to 5/5 before normal combat damage happens.

So this would be the same with {Nightveil Spectra} to right?

Yes, it would work the same with the specter.

That is wicked! Suddenly a non killing blow could turn lethal! Will have to get a couple copies of battle mastery.
