Title: How should a commander deck be split?
Post by: Greg54js on April 08, 2012, 04:11:45 AM
So right now my bolas commander deck is in the works and I have 60 creature/spells and then I'm going to run 40 lands... Is this acceptable or should I run less land and more creature/spells?

40 is a good number of lands. I usually do 39 + {Sol Ring} as a base.

Do forget about the various Signots ({Orzhov Signot}, {Golgari Signot}, {Boros Signot}, etc) that should be staple in every commander deck, as well as the Alara applicable Obilisk ({Obilisk of Esper}) for tri colour decks. {Darksteel Ignot} and the dual lands from Lorwyn/Shadowmoor ({Fetid Heath}) are also recommended.

I offen run 38 lands with the above mana givers, plus others, quite seemlessly.

Command tower should not be forgotten. My lands are around 32 lands with command tower, rupture spire, fetch lands, temple of false gods, then I have sol ring and darksteel ingot
