They are abilities and can be countered by either of those two spells. Being abilities they are unaffected by {Orim's Chant}.
So, I can flash in {Voidmage husher} with the same result? Are they considered "activated" abilities?

Yep! {Phyrexian Revoker} and {Pithing Needle} both can stop PW abilities.
