Title: Damage splitting
Post by: Schubydooo on July 03, 2014, 09:24:29 PM
If a Prized Unicorn attacks and a group of creatures is forced to defend it, does the defender or attacker choose how the damage is split (if split at all)?

And also how do you tag cards in this app? :P

The attacker will decide out the unicorn deals its damage among the blockers.  When multiple creatures are declared as blockers blocking a single creature, the attacker announces the 'damage assignment order', which is basically just the order that the blockers will be taking damage from the attacker.

Let's say the {Prized Unicorn} is blocked by a Llanowar Elf (Elf 1), a Fyndhorn Elves (Elf 2) and an Elvish Mystic (Elf 3).  The attacker says that the damage order is Elf 1, Elf 2, then Elf 3.  Players now get priority to cast, say, pump spells or damage abilities. When you finally move in to the Combat Damage Step, the Unicorn will assign its damage.  Since Elf 1 is the first in the order, you assign damage to it, first.  If you assign Lethal damage (in this case, 1), you assign damage to the next blocker, and so on.  Assuming no pumps or abilities are used, you'll be assigning Lethal Damage to Elf 1 and Elf 2, but Elf 3 will remain untouched.

Also note that if you give your attacker Deathtouch, you only need to assign 1 damage per blocker for it to be lethal.

And to tag cards, you use a squiggly bracket {   } with a card name in it.
