Title: Legacy Affinity
Post by: Munchlax on June 24, 2014, 12:43:12 AM
Could it work? I mean all the artefact lands are legal. You have more 0 cost artefact creatures. Could it be a thing?

Yes. I'm working on one now. It's basically modern affinity but with sol lands and artifact lands. Super explosive.

It's totally a thing.  You can build it a number of different ways, whether it's all-in Affinity, or a build like I did that when a little more back-seat with {Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas} and {Stoneforge Mystic}.

You core is going to be maybe three or four of each of the Artifact lands in your colors (Mine was Esper), plus a few {Darksteel Citadel}s and {Ancient Tomb}.  Top it off with {Springleaf Drum}s and {Mox Opal}s and you have your mana base.

You creature core is going to include:
0 Cost: {Ornithopter}, {Memnite}, maybe {Blinkmoth Nexus} and {Inkmoth Nexus}
1 Cost: {Signal Pest}, {Vault Skirge} (You'll never actually pay 2 mana for it)
2 Cost: {Arcbound Ravager}
3 Cost: {Etched Champion}

Then, you add the most powerful cards that care about number of artifacts you control:
{Cranial Plating}, which can add a huge amount of power to your guys, and can be equipped at instant speed to an unblocked attacker.
{Thoughtcast}, which in your deck just says "Draw 2" for {U}

My build played {Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas} as a curve-topper for card advantage and finishing through the ultimate (which only takes one up-tick to set up), as well as {Stoneforge Mystic} to search out and cheat in my four Cranial Platings and a single {Umezawa's Jitte}.  Mine didn't play Ravagers.

A friend of mine played a build that played no Mystics or Tezzes, but went with the Ravager/Inkmoth plan, which can be extremely powerful.  He also played things like {Spell Pierce} for tempo reasons.

The deck is, by no means, Top-Tier, but it can be powerful and explosive on the right draws.

Good summary. This is the version that I would try:

I want to run more zero cost artefacts. Like {Phyrexian Walker}

Gotta watch out though, if you over-commit, {Pernicious Deed} can be a bitch

Yeah. Doesn't seem like many decks main that though. Out of SB you usually have spell pierce and thoughtseize hopefully. Just like any deck there are lots of specific things that hate it out...  {Hurkyl's Recall},  {Stony Silence},  {Null Rod}, any artifact hate, etc.

Totally. Null rod is great! Same as stony silence for the same cmc but colorless? Seems good!!

I feel like Thoughtcast isn't as good in here as other legacy draw engines sure you draw 2 but wouldn't {Ponder} {Brainstorm} or {Preordaine} be better.

Remember this is from a guy who:

1. Has never played Affinty
2. Has never played Legacy lol

{Thoughtcast} is 2 cards for 1 blue, which helps keep the cylinders firing more than Ponder, and Brainstorm isn't at it's best without fetch lands.

In every situation you should have 3+ artifacts on the table (artifact lands count), so  {Thoughtcast} becomes {U}, Draw 2 Cards or {1}{U} draw 2 cards. Closest thing to  {Ancestral Recall} that I'm aware of. It doesn't give you as much filtering as brainstorm or the potential shuffle of ponder but for pure draw it's tops.
