I want to make a standard deck like my old elf ball deck.... And I figured this would be a good combo, but would this work? Basically I want to pump a bunch of mana with the archdruid for a fireball.
{Copperhorn Scout}
{Elvish Archdruid}
What exactly do you mean? Where's the combo, is there something Im missing?
If I am right about what you want to do, then the answer is no, this will not work to make a really large fireball. The main reason is that {Fireball} is a sorcery and {Copperhorn Scout} untaps your creatures when it attacks. This all means that you could use your {Elvish Archdruid} twice in one turn, but not have the mana from two uses of the druid at the same time, since you lose unused mana at the end of every step. So by the time you can cast a sorcery, you would have lost all of your mana from the first activation before the Combat Phase.
There are probably older, better cards that would do the trick, but {Omnath, Locus of Mana} would stop your pool from emptying. Nothing currently Standard will do that though.
You are right on both accounts. {Upwelling} was the precursor to Omanth, but he is just SO much better.
Here's a trick you could do with those two elves though:
1) Declare your attack
2) Declare {Copperhorn Scout} as an attacker (plus any others)
3) With his trigger on the stack during the Declare Attackers step, tap the {Elvish Archdruid} for mana
4) When the both resolve, tap the druid again and use the mana for some big instant or activated ability *cough* {Kessig Wolf Run} *cough*
5) Laugh maniacally! :D
What about the ability on flameblast dragon... Could I use the mana on that?
Hmmm.. Let me look in to that one. Don't forget to add curly brackets {
around the card names to make our lives easier
{Flameblast Dragon}
Edit: yep, it works. Since both abilities are triggered by declaring attackers, both with be placed on the stack in the order of the attacking player's choice. Put the dragon's trigger on the stack first, then the {Copperhorn Elf}'s trigger. With both of them on the stack, tap the {Elvish Archdruid} for mana. Then, let the Copperhorn resolve and tap the Druid again. Finally, when the dragon's trigger resolves, KABOOM!
I like this idea. It may make a splash in Standard.
Secondly if I :
1. Declare my attack step
2. Tap Archdruid for mana
3. Declare attack with Copperhorn
4. Tap Archduid again
Could I then use fireball before the block step, or can you not use a sorcery in that step... It's been a long time for me and I just started playing again
Sorceries may only be cast on your turn, during your main phases, when you have priority and there is nothing on the stack. Same as casting creatures and playing lands.
Ok. I'll have to edit my deck list a bit then. I'm using some {Green Sun's Zenith} to pull Each creature for the combo... Just trying to think of what else to put in. As soon as I get home I'll type up the deck list I have as of right now and get your opinions on it.
Cool, this sounds like a deck I might like to sleeve up. :)
Ok. So I built this only with the cards O have... Bought an M12 and Innistrad box so I have to work with what I've got.
11 Forest
8 Mountain
1 {Rootbound Crag}
1 {Kessig Wolf Run}
21 Land
3 {Green Sun's Zenith}
2 {Rampant Growth}
2 {Doubling Chant}
4 {Fireball}
2 {Devil's Play}
13 Sorcery
4 {Elvish Archdruid}
4 {Flameblast Dragon}
4 {Copperhorn Scout}
4 {Llanowar Elves}
3 {Adaptive Automaton}
3 {Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger}
3 {Ezuri, Renegade Leader}
1 {Primeval Titan}
27 Creatures
I might take out the Devil's play and doubling chant, add another Zenith when I can... Obviously try to get some more titans, but definitely one more automation. Thoughts?
So far so good. Personally, I would toss in a couple of {Fog}s since the deck really wants to attack with the weak {Copperhorn Elf}.
Second, it just occurred to me that each elf triggers separately so you could have INSANE mana.
That's the idea... A couple Copperhorn here a couple elvish there (hence the doubling chant to get some numbers). But I think ideally I want to get rid of the devil's play to add another zenith get rid of one ezuri for an automaton... Maybe replace the rampant growth with fog? I'm not too worried about attacking if I have a couple automaton and archdruids since they buff them...
I'd leave the Ezuri since he's another good outlet for your "combat mana".
Word. I'm going through my cards to see if I could find something to help me draw cards a bit to replace the rampant growths
Amazing deck idea man. It may put life back in to my Elf deck which I've left sit since Zendikar block rotated.
{Ghitu Fire} is a firball that let's you pay 2 more to cast as an instant. It is from Invasion tho......
I think this is supposed to be a Standard deck.
