not that it was me who did it, but if i would have lost tons of standard games to monoblack, i could appreciate the sentiment they felt with someone posting about winning with monoblack. luckily, i also play mono black (splash green), so I havent had that experience.

Thanks.

I kinda wanted to brag a bit, this is the biggest event I've ever won and SuperIQs are kinda the biggest thing you can go to without it being a 2 day event

That being said I do have my own twist on it.
Ratchet bomb is a thing yo!

I have some positive karma for the win! Itsgood to hear, but man o man, another mono black deck. I understand the frustration with people playing against it, it's been around and more top tier than Jund was last rotation (and that says A LOT). I do always go back to saying, if you win with it, play it! So congrats man, and hopefully you can get into some bigger events like a GP or PTQ and do some damage

Well done with the win! It's a solid build, no matter how irritating mono black is. Also maybe consider running at least two {Nykthos Shrine to Nyx}

With Staff of the death magus in the side
And Gray merchant being my highest costing card there really isn't much I need extra mana for.
The deck has two modes
1: PackRat plan, make a rat a turn and kill the opponent through multiplication.
2 control plan: use a vast array of kill spells with underworld connections as a draw engine to control the game and chip away at their life with a single creature.

I've actually qualified for a few higher lvl tcg and SCG events.
If I do well at them I'll probably try a PTQ or GP.

I have enough TCG points to enter into their 50k tournament later this year, it will take place about 1 week after RTR rotates out so I'm actually really excited about how diverse that meta will be!

Detention sphere loves pack rat.  Just sayin.  Otherwise very solid deck

I use a kill spell on the rat they target in response, then they get nothing :)

There really isn't any point to having it in this build.
Extra mana doesn't do my any good.

Good idea!
Also 4 mainboarded life banes!  :))

I'm not sold on the staff though...

Lifebane is my hero!

The staff is only for against burn decks.
It seems iffy but it's saved my life so many times!

Lifebane and nightveil both have built in evasion so that comes down to Flying VS intimidate
Nightveil has a straight 3B mana cost while LBZ has 1and2B, usually I get a Mutavault as one of my first three lands so that helps out to.

The last and most important argument is their abilities.
Nightveils works Fantastic in the mirror match, but outside of that it doesn't really do anything unless you splash in non basic lands which hurts the consistency.
While LBZ's effect really shines against G/W creatures it's also free knowledge which is ALWAYS relevant.
Knowing what's in your opponents hand can help you decide what to play and how to maneuver around any tricks/traps they might have.
That kind of Knowledge takes a bad player like me and makes them into a really good player ;)
