{Necromantic Thirst}, this can be played on an opponents creature, and if it deals combat damage, I get the effect correct?

Sorry, Tree, you're incorrect. You still control the Aura, even when it's on a Permanent controlled by another player. Since Thirst doesn't say 'that creature's controller may...', you'll get to return a creature, even if it hits you.
