Except it's really not in demand. If I had the money to buy an alpha black Lotus id just buy a pimped out edh deck.

Courser of Kruphix if we're talking standard. As more decks need this card, less are becoming available as BNG was most likely opened much less than THS and JOU

The only reason it's that expensive is because it's in demand.  Supply and demand balance the price out to there, so obviously it's in high demand.
It's in demand only from Collectors and Vintage players, which are a very, very small group.  The only reason that the price is so high is that there's an incredibly short supply of them.
Now, to take about Supply/Demand creating Prices to determine demand, I'd have to say Blue Fetch Lands.

Agreed.
The price is skyrocketing, and its hard to get your hands on one.

No, the demand is low, but the supply is even lower. All you can tell from a high price is that the demand is higher than the supply. That's economics 101.
If there's not many, couldn't Wizards just print more?

I think the highest demand cards right now are probably shocklands. Everyone is stocking up on them because of rotation and they are played in standard, EDH and Modern.

Speaking of that, I have a {Breeding Pool} and a {Godless Shrine} looking for a home.

I think that either the temples, mutavault, or the Gods.

I would have to say the true answer to this would be basic lands. That is the cardi have in the most of my decks.

My friend said the same thing today. I agree basics are pretty necessary, especially for newer players.

I disagree. Just because you use them, doesnt mean they are in demand. You get a free one in every pack and most players have more than they know what to do with.

{Mutavault} fetch lands and probably shock lands. Although a lot of people I know try to pick up the "enters tapped unless you control a... Or a..." Lands whenever possible.

Checklands. They are likely to be in M15, if not fetches or something else.

I'd really like that. Although. If they are reprinted. Won't the prices go up by a lot? Especially during the first few weeks of release.

Nope, because they've been printed so many times already.  They'll still probably be somewhere in the $2-4 range.  Maybe the new ones might be worth a little more for a bit considering the new card frame/font thing?

If they are in standard with shocks for even three months they will be at least $7-$10

Yeah I can remember buying a {stomping ground} from eBay for $12 and that was the cheapest I could find at the time (and I'm talking the cheapest by $3-$5). It was around the start of return to ravnica if memory serves.

Had stomping ground on the brain for some reason

I'm gonna call it Shocks right now because everybody knows they're going up, so they're getting them now while it's cheap.

Totally! When they leave standard they'll be harder to get, so prices will skyrocket!

Probably trolled.

No that's completely legitimate. Shocklands are the second best cycle of lands in magic, only second to original duals, and are played in multiple formats. They will be worth a lot post rotation.

What's your opinion on fetches vs. shocks?

Need both :P fetches are played for often in playsets (some decks run as many as ten -- looking at you Tribal Zoo) while shocks can be a 1-2 of. They're usually only 4 of's in two color decks which aren't all that prevelent in modern. And those decks will run a higher ratio of fetches than shocks. Fetch lands thin your deck too, more flexible overall.
