Title: Modern Event deck
Post by: Gocougs509 on June 13, 2014, 11:54:48 PM
Although I put together a {living end} deck a few months back, I am very new to modern and have never played the format in any sort of tournament. I recently traded someone on here for one of the modern event decks, and I'm hoping to turn it into a competitive B/W tokens build. It will probably take me some time to get ahold of {marsh flats}, and I probably won't even bother with {bitterblossom}, but most of the other potential cards are well within reach for me.

Basically I'm just wondering what you guys think I should run. Which cards are you not a fan of, which cards do you think overperform, and which cards are somewhere in between. How would you change this list?

4 {isolated chapel}
4 {caves of kolios}
4 {windbrisk heights}
2 {city of brass}
5 {plains}
4 {swamp}
1 {vault of the archangel}

4 {lingering souls}
4 {spectral procession}
4 {raise the alarm}
2 {shrine of loyal legions}
2 {inquisition of kozilek}
3 {path to exile}
4 {intangible virtue}
3 {honor the pure}
3 {tidehollow sculler}
2 {soul warden}
1 {sword of feast and famine}
1 {elspeth knight-errant}
3 {zealous persecution}

SB:

2 {burrenton forge-tender}
2 {ghost quarter}
3 {kataki, wars wage}
3 {duress}
3 {relic of progenitus}
2 {dismember}

Check out my Polymorph Tokens deck on here I think it's called Esper Tokens! :D

Anyways take out the shrine artifact thing and add 2 more of anything that you don't have 4-of.

Also I prefer {Midnight Haunting} over {Spectral Proccession}

Also replace the inquisitions in the main deck with thoughtseizes and replace the duresses in the sideboard with the inquisitions

Not necessary. Thoughtseize are great but Inquisition is still great!

I do have a play set of thoughtseizes but I'm not sure if I want to run one or the other, or some combination of the two

Thoughtseize is great! But in modern your thoughtseizes hit whatever an inquisition hits anyways.

If you have them I'd say run T seize over Inq

T sieze is good against a tron deck because you can force them to discard bombs and inquisition couldn't hit. I'm not sure if it's in there but {Surgical Extraction} might be good

Other than Taysby who runs tron? Lol

Also surgical changes the decks point his deck doesn't care if your deck has threats bc his deck just tries to pound face before you can control his army of tons of tokens!

I was saying that its better having thoughtseize and inquisition than duress

I'm wondering if I should run any {sorin, lord of innistraad} or {elspeth tirel}. I hear she does work in this deck

I put two into mine, but haven't had the time to playtest yet due to preping for the Chicago GP. They should work though

How about adding {Brimaz, King of Oreskos}?

More {Hero of Bladehold} seems better because it buffs and makes two dudes and can't get abrupt decayed

I run Brimaz but it's meta and personal preference.

So at this point i'm thinking:

-4 {caves of koilos}
-2 {windbrisk heights}
-2 {city of brass}
-1 {plains}
-2 {shrine of loyal legions}
-1 {honor the pure}
-1 {sword of feast and famine}
-2 {soul warden}

For

+4 {godless shrine}
+4 {marsh flats}
+2 {thoughtseize}
+2 {hero of bladehold}
+1 {sorjn, lord of innistraad}
+1 {elspeth tirel}
+1 {path to exile}

Any other suggestions? Still not sure how I feel about the 3 {tidehollow sculler}, but I think 4 discard spells mainboard is good as well as 6 anthems. Also like having 1 of each walker, because they are all great in their own right.

Not sure what to do with the sideboard, it seems solid at this point but I'm sure there are great options out there I don't know about. Any advice?

I'm not sure how much I like {launch the fleet}, but I haven't really playtested with it much so i really don't know its power level. I don't like brimaz all that much. He dies to {abrupt decay} AND he gets hit by {inquisition of kozilek}. And seeing as the 3 mana slot already has a handful of cards in it, I think I prefer planeswalkers and {hero of bladehold}. Also, 2 ghost quarter in the mainboard? One of the things I noticed right away about this deck is that it needs that colored mana. You want to be able to T1 thoughtseize/inquisition, and you also want to be able to T3 {Spectral procession}. Just the things I'm seeing, but other that I like a lot of the stuff and thanks for sharing

The {ghost quarter} is cos in my local meta we have quite a few tron decks, or decks with colonnades. Otherwise that's more basics.  I like Brimaz though hero can be better ill do some testing.
