Title: Platinum Problems
Post by: imFourth of Phils on June 13, 2014, 04:33:56 PM
good day, regarding to {Platinum Angel} an {Platinum Emperion} in EDH, just want to ask if i have one of these in play, do i or do i not lose if i take 21 commander damage?

and if i have in play {Platinum Emperion} and i successfully cast {Phyrexian Processor}, say i have 30 lives, can i pay 1000 lives? (it says any amount of life and emperion wont allow you to change life)

thanks

Emperion strictly states you cannot pay life except for 0

if you take 21 commander dmg, but an effect says you cant lose the game, you wont lose. once that effect preventing you from losing leaves the battlefield, youll lose next time state based actions are checked.

for the second part, you cant pay life with emperion on the battlefield. you cant lay any life so it wont work.

only part i dont know of this is if you have {platinum emperion} out and a commander attacks you. will you take commander damage but not regular damage?

I'm going to have to disagree with you.

1/1/2011   The ability doesn't prevent damage. Rather, it changes the results of that damage. For example, if a creature with lifelink deals damage to you, you won't lose any life, but its controller will still gain that much life. Similarly, if a creature you control with lifelink deals damage to another player, that player will lose life but you won't gain any life. Notably, if a creature with infect deals damage to you, you'll get that many poison counters.

It seems as though you would still take the commander damage but not lose life, however, after you hit 21, without the angel you should still lose.

so interesting. i had a feeling the commander damage would be fishy. +1

Also, to add, if you had Platinum Angel and played Phyrexian processor, you can only pay life up to the amount you have.  You can't pay life that you don't have.  If you're at 30, you can only play up to 30.
