Title: Counterspell and the stack
Post by: TreeTopSky on June 07, 2014, 03:36:03 PM
My opponent floats 8 land, 4 white, 4 blue, and casts {Armageddon}. I float 7 of my land, 4white, 3 blue. He proceeds to cast {Faiths Reward}, in response so do i, using the 4 white i floated. After my faiths reward resolves, and my land is back on the battlefield, can i continue to use counterspell on his faiths reward while it's still on the stack?

Your {Faiths Reward} resolves and puts all your stuff back.
His {Faiths Reward} is still on the stack.
Before it resolves you have to get priority and pass it - this is why you can cast draw spells and dig for counters.

Stack cannot be added to while resolving
If he casts faiths reward and then you do then you need to go ahead and cast your counter spell as well if you have the mana for it, that way the stack unwinds with his spell countered and yours going off

You sure? Can you get a ruling?

The way I see it is that it's like this I cast a {Giant Growth} in response they cast {Quicken} they the draw a counterspell so then after quicken resolves while GG is on the stack they cast {Remand} and GG gets countered.

That was my thought idk though

This is not true. The stack does not all resolve at once. Each player has a chance to respond before each spell on the stack resolves. He'd have a chance to cast counterspell with the lands he returned using Faith's Reward.
