Title: Help for Nekusar
Post by: Yawgmoth85 on June 06, 2014, 05:39:10 PM
Tryin to build a {nekusar the mindrazer} deck but I've never had a lot if luck with a grixis style before. I've tryed {thraximundar} but it was always a hit or miss, it either started rolling right out of the gate or couldn't get started in game play. Any Grixis advice or staples for this deck? I don't possess the Commander 2013 permade and don't have a {sol ring} to spare i.e  all mine are currently in use.

As many {wheel of fortune} and {windfall} effects as you can. {burning inquiry}, {dictate of kruphix}, {jace beleren}, {viceling}, {forced fruition}!

Lots of {fate unraveler} type things too. Nekusar can be brutal, but yeah I hope this was of some help

I'm surprised that {Jace's Archivest} hasn't been said yet.

 {Anvil of Bogardan} with  {Library of Leng} always good.  {Psychosis Crawler} for when you draw.

Thanks for all the tips. Would a zombie creature basis be viable? I understand the main direction of the deck is hand recycling, but I don't want to clutter the works with to many strategys. I think a more Izzet style for creatures would be good for this

For creatures, I would recommend  {Shocker},  {Barbed Shocker},  {Dragon Mage},  {Whirlpool Warrior},  {Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind},  and {Nin, the Pain Artist} to start off. Also, keep in mind things like  {Helm of the Ghastlord},  {Elder Mastery}, and  {Neko-Te} work with  {Nekusar, the Mindrazer}'s ability. {Hive Mind} may not be a bad choice with the wheel spells, too.

Edit: If you're going the wheel route, consider picking up  {Dream Halls}. You'll be discarding your hand often anyway, and this saves quite a bit on mana.

 {Whispering Madness} and  {Invisible Stalker}, may as well throw in  {Liliana's Caress} and  {Megrim}.  {Consecrated Sphinx},  {Reliquary Tower} and as mentioned,  {Jace's Archivist}. Your whole game is to cycle cards through there hands, quick win.

 {Library of Leng}

That way, when you wheel, you can choose whether to send the card to the graveyard, or back to the top of your library

Also can use effects like  {Liliana's Caress} and  {Megrim}. They discard, they take damage. I also like using  {Hive Mind}. With that out, one or two wheel effects is game over. Or you can be mean like me and use hive mind with  {Enter the Infinite}... Oops, I win

I also posted my build in this subforum in case you wanted to look at it and get some ideas...
