Title: Red Deck Does Win!!!
Post by: blackychan1 on June 05, 2014, 11:49:50 PM
So, my buddy asked my to play in the standard FNM tourney at my LGS tomorrow, and I don't play standard.... So my standard card pool is kinda .poo.. But I built this, what are my odds of doing alright? If something's completely useless, let me know, and if there is an uncommon/common in that is better, than I may have it. (Except for searing blood. I have opened quite a bit of BoG, and can't manage to pull more than the one I have. -.-)

Thanks! I edited it to be kinda like one that I saw! (I don't have any eidolon, or I'd use them)

Eidolon is brutal

I want to use it but as of wpet think to much of personal effects,  I run boros burn and I run a lot of low cost spells so thats my problem with eidolon, self harm.

{Burning-Tree Emissary} and {Fanatic of Mogis} have been doing bad things to me on MtGO. Also, if you're wanting to go with a bit of a burn approach, {Chandra's Phoenix} is a tank.

{Mogis warhound} is very aggressive and well costed mat of the time you'll play home turn 3 and will rarely play him turn 2

Burning tree, Chandra's Phoenix, and fanatic were all in my original one. I opted for this because of all the 1 drops. Do you think that fanatic can still find a home here?

No it makes you curve at 4 not 3 which doesn't sound bad but it is

I think for FoM, you'd want BTE and Phoenix/other double red sources. With {Ash Zealot} being the sole {R}{R} source, I'd say probably not. I didn't realize that was essentially your original list! :P

Then I guess the last question is:
Which is better? My current one? Or:
23 {Mountain}
23 Lands

4 {Firefist Striker}
4 {Rakdos Cackler}
3 {Firedrinker Satyr}
4 {Fanatic of Mogis}
4 {Chandra's Phoenix}
4 {Burning-Tree Emissary}
4 {Ash Zealot}
27 Creatures

4 {Lightning Strike}
4 {magma jet}
2 {seismic stomp}
10 Instants/Sorceries

I don't know about the other list, but I know this one has been a tough matchup for my partially-built BUG Walkers on MtGO.  I think the only difference I'm seeing from the ones I've played is that they play {Shock} instead of {Seismic Stomp}.  I think they both look pretty solid.  The only problem I'd have with the other list is that if the game happens to go to turn 5-6, you're pretty much done for, whereas this could still have BTE/FoM as a mid-late game ditch effort.

23 lands is too John cut to 20 at most! Of you go above 20 the extras have to be {Mutavault}

WHOO!!! 4-0 with the current list!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now, I think I'll keep playing standard. Any suggestions on how to make this faster/better? I think I'd like {legion loyalist}s instead of {Firedrinker satyr}. And {satyr hoplite} is so good!

Should I add {Mutavaults}?

T1 {satyr hoplite}.  (1/1)
T2 {madcap skills}  (5/2) attack for 5
T3 attack, cast 3 {titan's strength} (17/5)
That was my favorite game!

Tbh I'm not a fan of Mutavaults IN THIS BUILD! (Obvi Mutavault is unreal but I don't like it here)

And damn that game must've been awesome lol

Agree with the previous post, you don't want to be stuck with a sweet opener IF that mutavault was a mountain with few lands as it stands it will open a window for mulligans where if it was a mountain would be perfectly keep able.

The turn three mad cap pump would be super depressing especially if your opponent actually had the option to lose two guys to trade most wouldn't on game 1! The depressed look on your opponents face!

Seems like a blast to play.

Have you thought about {{armed//dangerous} over the dragon mantle?

The mantles are more permanent pumps but I feel the deck would be prone to removal anyhow and it's a quick way to sneak in some double strike bombs.

I can't think of any outside boros charm unfortunately in standard it's sorcery speed which sucks but unanswered could be a blowout! My only thought/suggestion.

There is also {pyrewild shaman} could be butchering the name it's a dragon maze rare 3/1 2 cost bloody rush that allows rebuy from graveyard for three. I don't think this fits as well in the aggro approach you're aiming for though.

You can also play {dynacharge}. Not only can you use it to trigger heroic, but you can overload it for just three mana and pump all you're creatures. A guy at my LGS uses it and it wrecks shop if he can curve into it

I've spent some time thinking about this question. And I really like the madcap's takes 2 to block... But doublestrike is simply too good! Is there a way to possibly have both?

And I feel like I never want to run into {ash zealots} maybe I should put in Some burn instead?

I also think that this is a good idea! I just don't know where to put it....

I'm building a similar list. Mine is based off of Tom Ross's boss sleigh list: http://www.starcitygames.com/article/28690_The-Return-of-Boss-Sligh.html

{Anger of the Gods} SB is a beautiful thing.

I suggested armed over {dragon mantle} as it's a cycled card,however, unless you're top decking lands you'll be vomiting your hand into the field leaving you with no extra mana for the pumps. In which case I feel {armed//dangerous} may be slightly better.

{madcap skills} had to stay for sure!

Hmmm.... I just removed my zealots for loyalists..... Shoul I maybe replace hoplites with the zealots? I never seem to want to draw the zealots though....
