Title: GP Tips?
Post by: DimirOverlord1300 on May 26, 2014, 03:42:03 PM
Alright, so I'm going to my first GP (Chicago) June 20-22, and I'm looking for tips while I'm there. I don't plan on doing the main event, but I'll be doing a lot of side event throughout the weekend, as well as perusing the vendors and trading with people there. Any etiquette tips or good side events I should do?

Etiquettewise, just act as you normally do, you are amongst your people. Other tips: bring food and drink with you, the vendors are usually ridiculously expensive. Limit your cash, I'd recommend just bringing cash and no cards (credit or debit), there are so many cool things and you will spend more than you planned unless you don't have the money. Bring decks, but make sure you always have an eye on them, there will be lots of people who would love to play, but a lot of people who would love to take your stuff also. Trading is awesome at GPs, you will see things you didn't know existed (even if you have been playing 9 years, trust me, I did), so bring trades, but remember to keep an eye on them too. Most importantly: have fun!

This might matter now that I think about it: I am going with friends, we are all 13/14 so if that factors into anything there's that. It's also good that I know the area there because I live only about 10 mins away from Rosemont

You could always hit up Big Ed's BBQ in North Chicago afterwards. Best BBQ I've ever had (and I dislike BBQ)

Hmmm is it in Chicago or a suburb? I've never heard of that place and I live in the area.

Its in the town of North Chicago, in Lake County. It's about an hour north of Chicago, but it's worth the trip.

Edit: never mind, guess they closed that location in the 3 years since I've moved from there. The closest location they have now is in Waukegan, which just opened right before I moved there. I never ate at that location.

Where do you guys live? I'm in Round Lake.   I won't be making  it to GP Chicago. I have to work on Saturday. I might try to go sat night if there is anything going on.  Don't know about Sunday yet, wife has a triathlon in he morning.

Might not want to try and meet up. You sound like an adult. They said they were 13/14 years old. Could get a little strange.
