Pretty sure of how this works but if my understanding is wrong I'd like to be corrected.
Friend and I are playtesting a Melira Pod build vs USA control. He tapped out and I cast an {Archangle of Thune}, with a fresh {Kitchen Finks} and a sac outlet already on the field. So I'm thinking this should be infinite, because-
Sac Finks, he hits the grave, persist triggers
Finks enters into the battlefield with the -1/-1 counter, puts ETB life gain on stack
When the life gain resolves Thune triggers
When Thune's stuff resolves the Finks' -1/-1 gets canceled out by the +1/+1, allowing me to rinse and repeat. A lot.
Am I missing something here? He felt like something wasn't quite right so it's worth clarifying.
Thanks for being awesome
That's pretty spot on. Once thune puts the two 1/1 counters on your finks, state based actions remove two counters leaving him with 1 1/1 counter. Sac and repeat.
Wouldn't you only get one counter? You gain two life, yeah, but it's only one instance of "lifegain"
Tis only one counter
Keep growing the angel infinitely until she can swing for game, or just have so much life it is impossible to beat. Haha genius
So y'all don't see any holes in it then? I'll have to let him know, thank you :)
The pod deck actually started out as his, but he got bored with it so I took it over (he and I share cards). Now it's just trying to get used to playing it and learning the various matchups. Fun fun
Nevermind, I'm dumb.
121.3. If a permanent has both a +1/+1 counter and a -1/-1 counter on it, N +1/+1 and N -1/-1 counters
are removed from it as a state-based action, where N is the smaller of the number of +1/+1 and -1/-1
counters on it. See rule 704.
So, if there were two +1/+1 and one -1/-1 counters, then one of each counter is removed, leaving just one +1/+1.
And here I thought you were referring to this ruling on angel which would mean that there is only 1 1/1 counter on the finks
7/1/2013 The ability triggers just once from each life-gaining event, whether it's 1 life from Soulmender or 5 life from Elixir of Immortality.
We can be dumb together.
End result is still the same. Go ahead and chain sacrifice your finks. The only difference is it ends up with no counters on it.
Lol y'all aren't dumb. It's weird, which is why I wanted clarification ;-) thanks everyone!
