Title: Fat pack or booster box
Post by: Ptsgpbk on May 16, 2014, 12:41:16 PM
hey I have the cash to go out and buy any booster box but I was thinking, is it worth it because the set I want (born of the gods) has only 1 card I am after, Brimaz for an edh deck.
Is it worth me just buying a fat pack and hoping for the best which means I can buy more individual cards I need and a journey into nyx fat pack as well?

Or you could just buy the singles you need, instead of getting a bunch of cards you don't need. There also no gaurentee that you'll even pull the card you're looking for

The box is not worth it bng is €ra¥ but I had bought a fat pack and pulled him first pack.. Do not have him any more. The other sets are better. I say trade for him

Buy a box of theros or nyx - you may have some extra money leftover to buy brimaz
Or trade for him with pulls

Nobody in my area has one and any online prices are way to high for me

I can't find any iPod money cards in nyx, and I know a website which sells boxes for £80

I would go with a New Phyrexia, Innistrad or Return to Ravnica box... If you really want boxes. Those will have more value in the long run than Theros

By that I mean cards in accordance to tcgplayer that are of any good value to me

The only cards I am after from RTR are mythics so no point in me buying it that's why I am currently trading for them

I don't understand why people buy fatpacks. They have 9 packs and (at least at my lgs) you can just get 10 packs for the same price.

At mine, a fat pack costs £33 whereas 10 packets would cost me £35.90

I used to love the extras but after 4 shitty ones. I'm over fatpacks waste of money, I would rather crack a box.

RTR is really good to get if you can afford a box or get one the price as JoU

Shocks
Abrupt decay
Deathrite
Sphinx rev

These alone are in eternal formats and will only go up after rotation.

I see your reasoning of wanting more cards; but every magic player will tell you that you will eventually have more than enough cards.

A trade binder full of junk rares will not move faster than a trade binder with 20 amazing cards that are sought after.

Also PROTIP: Try not to trade your eternal format items (deathrite/shocks) for standard items of equal value. Eternal items should get a trade that will not decrease in value.

Ok, so how much profit should I generally get if I pull good cards from RTR?

I agree with rtr
I pulled abrupt decay, deathrite, steam vents, blood crypt, overgrown tomb. And tons of other awesome things in mine

Just don't want to pull terrible cards and waste the money

Any box is like that.. I bought a box of innistrad for $185 a while ago and pulled nothing, cards added up to $50 all together. Wasted money. It happens

But generally I will pull some good cards

If you're going to take away anything from this, DO NOT by a box of BnG. Simply buy Brimaz. You will waste so much money. If you want a box, rtr for days. It's still in print, so it's somewhat cheaper than an older set, and there's so much value in it I've seen plenty of individuals walk away with profit. You could probably buy a box, sell off the stuff you don't want, and buy Brimaz with that.

Your chances of pulling a {Brimaz, King of Oreskos} in a Born pack= 1/80. Even if you bought 2 boxes, it is quite likely that you don't get one.

Well...I bought a Russian and Japanese box
brimaz in each
All the lands
Half the gods
But no kiora or her emblems :(

Couldn't even finish all my tokens in japanese

It's all luck of the pull

I always buy a box of a new set and then with the exception of drafts, I don't buy another booster pack. I use the stuff I don't want from the box as trade fodder and just buy singles after that.

I like this plan.

Booster all the way
More likely to pull amazing stuff because it's random and that's how you normally get from store

Fat packs have the tendency to be fixed when they make them
I havnt pulled anything good from a pack but boxes I've gotten wonderful stuff

That is complete garbage. All booster packs are random, whether they appear in boxes or fat packs. Just because you haven't got anything decent out of them doesn't mean the other 2 million people that buy them haven't. Get one or the other depending on the value of booster packs in your area and how many you actually want. You aren't more likely to pull something good from one over the other.
