Title: Planes walkers

Can some one tell me how you play and use planes walkers? I know there is a number on the bottom of the card, and a few numbers with pluses an minuses. I'm guessing the pluses and minuses affect the bottom number? Is the bottom number the attack/defense? Are they creatures?
And while we're at it, I'm confused about transforming creatures too.

I just got back into MtG a year and a half ago after a 10 year highateous and had to learn how to use the PW as well so don't feel bad
