Title: Esper Mill
Post by: Mattao19 on May 12, 2014, 07:43:50 PM
3 {Shelldock Isle}
22 Land all together

4 {Hedron Crab}

4 Creatures

4 {Visions of Beyond}
3 {Path to Exile}
3 {Surgical Extraction}
3 {Crypt Incursion}
2 {Thought Scour}
4 {Breaking // Entering}
3 {Mind Funeral}
4 {Archive Trap}
3 {Supreme Verdict}

29 Instants/Sorceries

3 {Mesmeric Orb}
2 {Detention Sphere}

5 Artifacts/Echantments

Notes:
I don't own {Glimpse the Unthinkable} if I did they'd be in here. Also Verdicts and D Speres are a Meta call bc I play against Zoo and Fish a lot.

Any advice is appreciated!! Still finishing up my SB :P

Thanks :D

Maybe a {Ghost Quarter} to make sure you can {Archive Trap} them when you draw it?

I suggest  {Mind Grind}. Late game finish upper when you don't know what to do with all that mana.

Ghost quarter is one of the lands :P

Mind Grind is not good enough for me but thanks :P

Bounce lands like {oboro palace in the clouds} work great too.  Or even the dual bounce lands from Ravnica

{Ghost Quarter}

Be careful because it says may search. It doesn't force them.

Then you get a {Wasteland} that blows up basics 😉

This^

Plus same for Path if they don't search I have a {Swords to Plowshares}!! Lol

This deck (in that regard plays legacy cards!!

And {Visions of Beyond} is {Ancestral Recall}! So I play Power Nine!!

You need Snappy. {Visions of Beyond} gets pretty OP with him. Without it it's a bad {Serum Visions} most times.

I'm so on the fence with Snappy! He's unreal! But what would you take out?

Someone who doesn't want to get hit with an  {Archive Trap}

Most I've done in play testing is 3 {Archive Trap}s on 1 TURN!! I felt like a baws!!

Nice.

Side board possibly  {Echo Mage} or  {Twincast}

Rest in Peace is a 3 of SB and I have {Surgical extractions to deal with them MB. Not good matchups but best I can do :P

Also how does gravestorm work exactly?

Say I  Archive Trap} them, they mill 13, of which there's 3 land, 4 creatures and 6 instants/Sorceries. Do I get 7 copies of Gravestorm now? Or do I have to destroy a permanent

Ouch! That's dirty!! Ill play test that a bit but right now I'm screwed against burn like I can't beat burn! How do I fix this?

Let line of Sanctity? Is the only thing that I can think of but it'd be a 2 of SB and hard to draw/open with it

Do you think this can be competitive like borderline Tier 1. It's from a list that went 9-2 day 1 in Detroit last year

I mean, it's mill. You can have some really awesome games, and then you can have some terrible games. It's really boom/bust and aggro matchups are always going to be a nightmare.

Aggro does Hurt a lot but looking at the top 8 from Minneapolis it's mostly combo or control and I like my odds vs both. Plus {Crypt Incursion} is insane!

I know :( that's why I have verdicts and tbh {Crypt Incursion} wins it for me except that sometimes it's infect damage :(

I used this shell for my mill deck too and I can tell you that {snapcaster mage} aren't great in this deck.
{Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver} is a really good card to have in the sideboard I've found.

Steal their stuff, or its a three drop, mill three every turn and it you ulti him, you pretty much win. He seems solid.

I don't see the side tech though. As a mill spell, there are better alternatives. I.E. {Lightning Bolt} is better than {Annihilating Fire}.

Aggro is really popular in my group and Ashiok gave me a chance to stall.
Might not work in your meta.
Also about snapcaster. I didn't like cutting 4 cards for him as the deck runs really well without him.

But Ashiok gives you more versatility. For example, taking some of pod's creatures after they have been killed could really screw them. {Murderous Redcap} can provide a blocker and destroy combo creature, {Kitchen Finks} can provide lifegain and a blocker and {Orzhov Pontiff} could wipe a board. On the other hand, he could just be a repeated source of milling in a grindy control matchup.

Ashiok isn't in the deck for mill. He provides some stability while you mill them.

If you had all the cards for this what would the deck be?
Title: Re: Esper Mill
Post by: Mattao19 on June 01, 2014, 08:57:31 AM
I do have all the cards for this :P this is my real deck. :D tbh Idk if I'd even bother with glimpses bc {Breaking // Entering} is not as bad as it seems. Because {Shelldock Isle} can be used to cast entering and you can take their creature lol

I am just being curious because I could technically make it with glimpse. My mills downfall is aggro...

What about infect?
Title: Re: Esper Mill

Infect you scoop to
Title: Re: Esper Mill
Post by: Spencer Addington on June 01, 2014, 07:46:11 PM
Infect is so inconsistent and relies so heavily on a thin creature base that any disruption at all usually screws it. That's why I don't play infect anymore. Even done right it's iffy.

My list runs {Unsummon} and {Echoing Truth} mainboard. They rely so heavily on one dude getting through that a well timed bounce spell usually does the trick. Having 2 is pretty key though, because that {Apostle's Blessing} tends to be a blowout otherwise. If you can pull it off they dump their hand and are left with a single dude in hand, and more than likely a Nexus on board, and rely on top decks. That should easily give you the game.
