Are they worth the cash?

I call em crap packs
I get terrible pools and am better off with buying a box personally.

9 packs for 35-40 USD or 36 packs for 110 USD.

Rather just save and buy a box or buy singles

I will have about £200 so I have enough for a box (£90) just not sure which one, becaus I can buy far packs for the rest, also I need boxes to store my cads in well

Buy a box of RTR or Avacyn.

Draft the Theros block casually at your local store, you will pick up cards that way for cheaper.

Buy singles to finish a standard deck, don't rest on pack cracking, you'll just end up spending money to feed the beast

Dont buy boxes at all. Only time u should ever crack a pack is at a draft. Make a wishlist for your desired format(s). Revise it weekly and use your money to purchase those items. While u may crack that amazing rare or mythic the chances are higher that u crack a dud. Just my 2 cents, or pence, as it were.

Well happy birthday. I enjoy opening packs so I would say a box. If your all worried about value then stay away from packs and this game(I would suggest buying dominion or ascension and investing your money) I am a casual player so I just play with what I get and have fun. I enjoy buying a box then splitting it with a few people(usually 3 others each paying 25% of the cost) and do a sealed and a draft for fun. That's just my suggestion.

Haha, ok I just like the idea of going and buying a pack, I am travelling down to Cornwall in the holidays so will need something to do for 7 hours and was thinking of making 6 draft decks from a box

Depends on set and size.

Bought of a box of Morningtide, did a 4 player sealed. Totally fun and pulled mad money.

Boxes are great with friends and also if you're a set collector like myself

Really, this depends on the direction you want to go.  There has been a wide variety of ways you could spend the money, but it depends on your goals for the game.  Wanna create an awesome new deck?  We can suggest singles.  Wanna do a birthday draft with friends and still get some value?  We can make suggestions for that too.  Until then, you will get a variety of suggestions, and they can be counter points to each other.  People play this game many different ways; you must decide how you want to play.  Each method has their merits, as well as their issues.

tl;dr

Tell us what you want to play and we can give specific advise.

I want to have fun with cards going solo as it will be 7 hours of waiting travelling down the country so I need advice for that, also any good accessories I may need if I go into FNM when down there

Have 2 standard decks, 2 EDH decks when you travel. You will always find games

Starting out, 2 decks can be a stretch.  You said white weenie earlier; that can be a fun interactive deck.  Post your deck list in the standard section and you will get some good ideas on singles you can get to round out the deck.

FNM are great places to start and get more specific advice.  Playmate, sleeves, life and +1/+1 counters, pad and pencil, money for entry and snacks, a good bag all help to make the experience enjoyable.  Pen and paper can be used for keeping life count as well as notes on how to improve your deck for next time.

I have decided to run boros burn and selesnya token

I got a playmat/sleeves toay also need to get +1/-1 counters and a spin down dice, what do you use for the counters?

Also, does it cost for fnm if it is just standard or modern? Couldn't find anywhere saying it costs

I agree that modern is more stable, but standard is more common at FNM. I have gone to a system where I have an "Esper" fat pack box that holds the core for each format.  I can then pull the cards to put my deck together from the box regardless of what format I am playing.  It is divided in sections for basic lands, nonbasic lands, creatures, sorceries...

If the OP enjoys white weenie, then he should go with that and keep in mind that he may want to expand it to other formats.  It may not be competitive in every format, but it will be fun to play.

why do you need +1/-1 counters? nothing in standard makes those. do you mean 1/1 counters and -1/-1 counters? if so, most ppl just use 6 sided or bigger dice to keep track.

Both are fun decks. Be mindful that a lot of the token deck may rotate out in a couple months. Boros burn may have similar issues unless you pull heavily from the Theros block and just dabble in the Ravnica block to flesh it out.
