Title: Obzedat's Devotion
Post by: McAtoms on April 30, 2014, 07:55:48 AM
Been playing around with this Black Devotion variant lately. Comments appreciated.

The sideboard gets rotated in pretty regularly. Especially against U/W and Esper control. Where the whip works really well against contuer spells.

2 {Lifebane Zombie}
3 {Pack Rat}
4 {Desecration Demon}
4 {Gray Merchant of Asphodel}

17 creatures

2 {Doom Blade}
1 {Devour Flesh}
2 {Mind Rot}
2 {Underworld Connections}
4 {Read the Bones}
3 {Thoughtseize}
3 {Duress}
2 {Hero's Downfall}

19 other spells

Sideboard

1 {Devour Flesh}
2 {Hero's Downfall}
2 {Bile Blight}

Why aren't you playing 4x {Underworld Connections}? you are trying to build devotion and that seems like a really important part of that (doesn't die to {supreme verdict})

Good point.

Think I'll pull the 2 {Mind Rot} for 2 more Underworlds.

B/w god, either pull lifebanes and run 4 nightveil or add 2 more, blood barons add the shock lands

In play testing my only issue so far is a super fast aggro like RDW and of course {Blood Baron of Vizkopa} . I've got no answer to BB unless I get 'em with a  {Thoughtseize} or {Lifebane Zombie}.

Any suggestions?

Other than two more Lifebanes...

{Fiendslayer paladin} is great vs aggro

The whip with Garry is awesome in a devotion deck. Also works really well with obzedat.

Also blood Barron is awesome against Argo decks.

As far as an answer for blood baron you need the sacrifice effects. {devour flesh} {far//away} so you can get him off the board.

As far as answering blood baron,  {Celestial Flare} is a really solid option.

Put in a few {Fiendslayer Paladin}'s. So far they are working well to combat RDW.

Right around an 80% win percentage.
Have to see how Journey affects it though.
