Title: Hexproof question
Post by: TreeTopSky on April 27, 2014, 11:55:40 PM
{Archetype of Endurance} and {Tromokratis} on the field, Tromokratis attacks, can it be the target of spells or abilities?

So this is an interesting question but can be answered.

{Tromokratis} now basically has 2 instances of hexproof, although they are redundant they are still there.
So his text looks like:
Tromokratis has hexproof unless it's attacking or blocking.
hexproof
Tromokratis can't be blocked unless all creatures defending player controls block it. (If any creature that player controls doesn't block this creature, it can't be blocked.)

When he attacks/blocks his own hexproof deactives, but his other will remain active.  He will still have hexproof while attacking/blocking.

But it states that he loses hexproof when he attacks. Multiple instances of hexproof is redundant.

Edit: My friend - avodroc- is asking this question. I (Tree) already knew this.

if it said he lost hexproof it would be different.  It says he has hexproof unless it is attacking or blocking.  While at the core it does mean the same thing, it is a vital wording difference.

Also since the archetype is a constant Hexproof even if his deactivates the other will remain. Sort of like an airlock where one may open but other will remain closed

I also want to agree:)
The wording is what allows the hexproof to work on him
